Deep Reef's 120 gallon build

Liner Installed and stand/canopy sanding complete and ready for stain.

Fans for canopy also arrived today

Hopefully I can get them installed tomorrow.

you're going to love those fans.....simply the best and quietest

awesome build. good luck

Have you thought about a cable mgmt solution?

Deep Reef's 120 gallon build

Plenum got it thanks...I am very new school lol

In my understanding, a true plenum is egg crate wrapped with screen to prevent sand from entering the area, thus creating an area of anaerobic water.

Great job on your stand and attention to all details on the build! Looking forward to your progress and updates!

Friday the door hardware arrived:

Saturday I got the stain on and first coat of polyurethane

the holes taped off in the top of the canopy are for the fans which I'll install after the finish is done.

OK, busy day...Got the doors and hardware installed

I was getting some sliding forward of the canopy (maybe due to weight) when I opened and closed the front so I picked up brass coated corner braces

and bent them (top ones are bent)

Then used them to provide a clip (one each side) to keep the canopy from sliding.

Installed the fans

and secured the wire in the canopy

I wired in the adapter that came with the fans so they would be removable without wiring should I have a failure.

We put the tank on te stand today so I could begin plumbing this week.

Created the wiring harness for the fans. The top one is with the 3/8" PVC conduit installed and the bottom one is with the connector wired.

So here is a picture of completed harness

Picked up moisture sealing electrical tape

Here is the connector in the canopy

After the taping

Couldn't finish installing the harness. The 3/8" clips I bought don't fit around the flex conduit. I ran to HD and got there at 8:03pm. they close at 8. :(

I'll have to get them tomorrow. Now on to the plumbing...

awesome update and great craftsmanship. everything looks great. words of advice make a list of plumbing parts you need and double double check and when your there grab extra. lol running back to HD 3 or 4 times can get annoying real fast. lol at least the employs will know your name rather quickly lol

No thoughts on cable management at this point. Any suggestions?

Sorry for the late reply. As for thoughts, I think it would be a really cool idea to install a fake ceiling in your cabinet. All your wiring would run up into the "ceiling" and come out the back.

You could build two chutes on each back corner to run the cables down and out to the outlets.

Make sense?

The stand and canopy look great. Excellent attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.

Quick question, instead of using those brass brackets in the back to keep the canopy from sliding forward, did you consider using small pieces of hardwood?

I have been looking for 2"x2" plastic gutter (similar to what is used in computer rooms) to mount on the back to run all the wires in but I can't seem to find it locally.

Yeah, I think that would work great. Only issue I have had with those is that if you don't get enough and try to jam too many cables in there, you'll never be able to get just one out.

I used these on my old tank and I really liked them but I would recommend one about every foot. Otherwise, the cable sags. I also didn't like that you could still see the cable if you looked at the canopy roof. But I'm OCD. That may not bother most.
