Alright guys I was wondering if any of you out there have ever used this skimmer before. I am setting up a 215 SPS and want to have everything contained in the cabinet. I was wondering what would you recommend for a feed pump to this skimmer? Is it worth the money or should I look at something different?

I have the AP851 and it's one of the best decisions I made setting up my reef. It skims like a champ! The customer service you get from Doug is also second to none. I would give him a call and check out his forum as well.

I also recommend gravity feeding it off your returns. You will skim a bit more efficiently and have one less pump to worry about.

if i did gravity feed it would i need to somehow control the amount of flow that goes into the skimmer?

here is my gravity feed setup on my Deltec skimmer...

Yes, you would just use a union ball valve and a T to let air escape. If you search around in the Deltec forum, you will find a couple threads on it with pictures.

of course they have....i didn't because it fit nicely in the sump and i didn't want to worry about it possibly overflowing as skimmers do. just plumb it so it sits outside the sump and still in your cabinet. pretty simple stuff....

do you think that the 701 is the right skimmer for a 215 SPS?
Do you have enough room in your stand for an AP851? I believe the AP701 is a cut down version of the AP851.

I think it should be a great skimmer for your needs. If you wanted something more powerful, you'd have to go to an in-sump skimmer.
