Deltec skimmers

Anyone have experience using them? Looking for reviews on them.

I have the Deltec MCE600 hanging on the side of my tank. It works well, it pulls out a lot of bad stuff. It has a chamber which allows you to use media such as rowaphos, carbon, etc. The collect cup is square so it is a bit harder to clean than an oval one. Also another issue I had is the venturi air intake was quite noisy so I attached a 'silencer' to it which was just a pill bottle with holes drilled in the lid like this:

Of course noise wont be an issue if you run the skimmer in your sump. My friend has the MCE300 and his isnt as noisy as mine so it could be an isolated issue, it was second hand after all.

Is there anything else you'd like to know?

I used to have them but grew tired of the proprietary pumps that died and had to be replaced only with their pumps. That and the abysmal customer service turned me off. That was a while ago, so that may have changed for the better.

I had a AP703 ,by far the best skimmer I ever owned.

I agree with Steve on their proprietary pumps........parts for them were ridiculous.

I sold my skimmer for that reason, otherwise I'd still have it.

They have reinstituted a customer service base back in the US a few months ago. I think it's Doug who used to be the Deltec rep on RC. They have a forum web page on another site.

Ive had several Deltic Skimmers. They are by far the best skimmers I've EVER had (I've had BK as well). Always pulled more junk than competitors. Only issue was parts and such was a pain. I think that may be resolved as Doug is back as their rep.

The previous issues with parts, especially pump related, turned me off to the point where I will no longer consider them. Excellent product until it breaks.

I use a Deltec 1350 skimmer and am very happy with it. Compared to my previous skimmer, BM NAC6a, it produces consistent skimmate and never overflows. It is quiet too. Here are a few skimmate photos:

Just purchased a Deltec SC1456 DC Pump Skimmer for my new SPS system with 180 gallons of total system water. The thing is absolutely amazing! It's controllable and DEAD SILENT! I have climbed into my stand and placed my ear over it to hear it. Also Doug is back and I am getting all my Deltec equipment from him. He has all the parts and is working very hard to get the old service and parts issues to be a thing of the past. The equipment and parts will ship from Pennsylvania here in the states. I honestly have tried it all and there is something to be said about the quality, efficiency and just overall performance of the products. I also purchased a Deltec NFP509 Nitrate Filter and I will be getting their calcium reactor as well.

Before purchasing my Deltec SC 1350 skimmer, I had considered its DC version, but at present both the 1350 and 1456 DC versions rely on Chinese Jebao pumps. I hesitated because of this. The AC versions are tried and tested Deltec's own pumps. I agree on Deltec quality. I have recently purchased a Deltec KM 500 kalk stirrer, which is also very good and sturdy.

I also have a Deltec 509 Nitrate reactor it will be nice to get some impellers for it. The problem with some of their equipment has been the Aqua Bee pumps and lack of support.

You can get spare parts for German brands, such as Tunze, Deltec, Aquamedic, Schuran, directly from German online retailers.

^^^^^ Yeah I guess I was afraid of the overall cost associated with it, it seemed that they're was a unknown factor. I need to get a couple of pumps for my H&S skimmers as well.

Doug Thompson was the original US distributor who founded Deltec USA in 2004. He is now back in charge of US market as of May 4, 2015. The previous distributor was the reason for all the customer service issues and lack of support and is no longer involved in any way Deltec. Doug is excellent with customer service / product support and already has a large inventory of new products and replacement parts in stock and ready to ship from his Pennsylvania facility. Give him a call or send an email and he can get you what you need.
