Demons Out! (New Tank Build)

I tried to use as much as possible of the old water, a rough estimate would be about 70%. The rest was fresh salt water.

thanks, I will definitely use all the old water that I can. Great looking tank by the way!! You should be proud.

Thorium,
I'm thinking about getting one of these myself so I have a couple of questions for you. The tank looks great BTW.

How many MH's do you have over it. I know that conventional reefing says 6' tank = 3 MH, but what did you do. I'm thinking about using only two 250's and doing the majority of stocking in the middle of the tank. Do you think that would look fine?

What are you using for flow. I see qite a few seios in there, what size are they and are they doing the job or are you still in need of more?

Any other feelings you have on the tank overall shoot them my way. Thanks, and the tank is looking killer.

Dave

Thanks it was well worth it, I enjoy it everyday.

Awesome transformation!! If there was a tv show entitled "Extreme Aquarium Makeover" you'd have my vote!!

Thanks Tom

Lenny-

The end SEIO's are 2600's and the middle SEIO's are 800's, the return is shooting back about 1200 from the sump. So, with that I am running about 8000gph for 64X turnover. Right now I feel this is more than adequate. I had about 55X turnover in my old tank and that worked out great, I had both great coloring and growth. For lighting I went with three pfo mini pendants each firing phoenix 14k's off of pfo HQI ballasts. I really think for this tank three are needed, I think the tank is too long for two pendants. Even if two pendants are placed near the center the edges might look distracting with longer shadows. I also think painting the back black was a very good choice, the colors just are more vibrant against a black background. The tank is nice to work with beacuse it is only 18" wide, however, the two overflows do take up quite a bit of space. So, that being said plan accordingly to work arond the overflows. Not having a sump under the tank has been nice as well, working in the sump -sort of unobstructed is a good thing.

Hope any of this helps and thanks again for the great comments everyone.

Thorium - My fish, myself, but most of all my corals thank you for the Stream - :D

Your tank is even more amazing in person - the colors are so vivid I'd swear it wasn't real if I hadn't seen it in person ;)

Awesome swap looks alot better and now they have more room to grow let me know when your going to be sending me all thos frags.....

HEEHHHE Best wishes tank looks great....

Thanks Everyone
Its nice to hear the compliments from the community after such a massive undertaking. Yeah, there were quite a few frags that broke off during the transition. We were careful, but some things just could not have been avoided.

Hey Everyone.
Just an update, the skimmer and the controller are sold. The overflow is still available for $40.
Thanks
Josh

Josh, great job. I've been lurking and reading for a year now and I showed the wife your 125 pic and she finally understands what I hope to have some day. I think you said your sump is not under the tank? Do you have any pics of that to share?

Hey theotherleft
Thanks for the nice comment. The sump is behind my tank in a sort of "junk room." Heres an updated tank and sump pics. The tank is in the basement in my office. For what I wanted, the sump would not be able to fit under the tank.
