I write this while listening to ServPro completely smash one of my tanks to pieces, quite depressing actually.
I have (had) two 220 gallon custom tanks. While on vacation last week, one of them split a seam, spilling about 50 gallons of water. Luckily, it appears much of it went in the sump and much of it was contained by the pond bladder I lined the bottom six inches of my stand with. Also luckily, the water shorted out the power strips shutting off the pumps without causing a fire. The water damage will probably be minimal, but to get to it the tank must be removed. My two tanks are in alcoves on either side of a fireplace. Everything was dead, quite the aroma to come home to. I told my wife the last time I had to deal with a large spill (bulkhead seal failure) that I was done, but she persuaded me to fix the problem and start them back up. Well, this time I am done.
ServPro removes the one today and my LFS is coming on Monday to get the other. The cabinet guy comes tomorrow to quote on replacing the built-ins with something more standard.
On top of all that, I broke my ankle during my vacation and am wearing a nice black boot, can't really do any of this myself.
The silver lining (if you call it that) is that my LFS here in Charlotte (Nemo's Reef) has been responsive and has agreed to take all of this stuff and sell what they can on consignment. They are great. I could probably sell quite a bit of the equipment here and make more money, but it is more than worth it to have them handle it. I really can't say enough how great Chris and Kevin have been so far.
Oh yea, they say bad things come in three's. My dog had been diagnosed with tumors in both ears due to the boarding place having to take him to the vet while we were on vacation as well. He is going to his regular vet later today.
