@gioNVA: Thats a beautiful solution (and tank)! Too bad, that my tank is so close to the wall that it'll be impossible to get there to attach this, without moving the whole tank

I've kind of gone with a hybrid of several ideas here. The final approach is to mount a 48" L bracket to the wall (hitting three studs by luck). From that, four 1" square tubes extend out 24 inches and a cross member is installed at the very end to square the setup. Two chains will run from the end of the rack back to the wall for additional strength.

This design will allow me to both raise and lower the lights as well as move them from the front to the back of the tank (makes maintenance easier as well).

All aluminum has been cut and primed. Will do the final painting (flat black) on Friday and likely hang on either Saturday or Sunday.
