Just grabbed this since I was buying fish anyways and I didn't want to pay shipping. So while it may have been $149, I look at it like it was $115 since shipping was free after I added it.

Does anyone have this dude grown out? Does it resemble (or is it) the Original OT?

Wouldn't hurt to ask DFS for the lineage to confirm. Hard to tell from the frag if it has the same shape you normally see in the original colony.

Omg, now that's an Oregon tort! How long did it take you to grow out that colony? I'm guessing 5-7 years?

That's an awesome piece! Very nice. I have a frag that just doesn't want to grow. Plenty of encrusting and polyp extension but no growth. One day...

Here's a pic of the frag. I am impressed with the color of this thing. So blue!

Just received this email from DFS:
Thank you for your interest in Drs. Foster and Smith's LiveAquaria. We have contacted our Aquaculture Coral & Marine Life Facility for more information on the Oregon Tort Acropora Coral (item# 022615154) featured in our Diver's Den. Our Oregon Tort frags come from a piece grown out in our department director Kevin Kohen's office tank. This piece was a frag from the original ORA mother colony.

I've had mine for several years now. High light (as is apparent with some of the branches starting to bleach, time to cut it again), moderate flow. Its been cut several times, and will randomly RTN a branch without effecting the rest of the colony. Craziest thing about this colony is that it has never encrusted and is still on the original frag plug, epoxied to a rock.

And then pay Shipping on top of that, which makes it a $100 piece and I dont get to see the exact piece.

your buck, you might have a great coral, I would be more sure that the linage from upscales.

I myself would worry less with lineage and more about uniqueness. Then I justify whether the price is worth it. Original or not, finding an acro with that deep of blue is a tough find. Add in the slow growth rate and you can see why these pieces are so costly.
