diamond goby

Ok as i mentioned in my previous threads. i was askin what kind of animals can i put in my 20 gal to move my sand around. well i'm thinking about getting a diamond goby. but i have a few questions..


1--- would the diamond goby be too big for my 30 gal. since i have read they need to be in a tank 50 gals or larger?

2---do they really turn the sand like they online when doin research.

3-- i have a sailfin blenny would they fight if i got it? or is this a hit or miss thing?

4--- i'm workin on buildin my reef tank. would he bother any of the corals i plan on getting?


sorry for questions but i couldn't seem to find my answers when doin my research.

I've seen them crater a tank, so at least some of them turn a huge amount of sand. I wouldn't put one in a 30g, but it might work.

I don't think it'll fight with a blenny.

If the goby throws enough sand around, that can irritate corals, so you might end up limiting the corals to the upper reaches.

I have a Diamond Goby in my 125 gallon reef. He's adorable, but extremely industrious and will dig and bury anything attractive -- especially if it's valuable!

I can't imagine my little guy in a 30 gallon and personally I wouldn't recommend it.

ok hmm..

1--if i choose to bypass the goby and go with tongan nassious snails.. and bristle worms.. would my sixline wressie end up eating them all?

my DG completely redid the sandwork for about a month, but now ever since building a stable home under a LR, he leaves the sandbed alone. he just siphones around his home for food that drops to the ground. he did bother the corals that i placed on the ground but i just moved them up on LR. not a big deal. they are a great addition if you want to keep your sandbed clean.

I don't think a six-line would be a problem. It'd eat some of the smaller bristleworms, but not enough to make a difference.

where could i get bristle worms..

I get them from InlandAquatics.com and ipsf.com, but billsreef.com sells them, and there are likely other vendors as well. If the tank has any live rock, there's likely bristleworms already.

You will probably get plenty of bristle worms arriving in your live rock.

My DG is unbelievable for turning the substrate of my 200g FO - holes down to the glass everywhere ! 30g might well be a little small...

I have a Diamond Goby in my 85, as others have said they do a fantastic job of turning over the sand and keeping it extremely clean, mine just cruises around all day long takin in nice big mouthfuls of sand...Mine hasnt bothered my mushrooms or any of my other corals at all

I don't think your six line wrasse would bother snails or bristleworms. You shouldn't have a problem.

what about a bullet goby to stir you sand up? they tend not to dig big holes, just sift the sand.

Might want to look at a Rainford's Goby. They stay pretty small (2.6") and sift the sand. Nice looking fish too.
