90gallon reef tank with 3inches of livesand and lots of live rock

First of all my tank is not new. it has been running for about 2-3 years with out this type of algea....its like redish brownish dusty stuff that seems to fade to a lighter shade when the lights are off....by the end of my light cycle its much darker...it started on my sand bed and now has started to grow on thelive rock...

ok here is the list of things i have tried over the last 4 months

1. 4 new bulbs (T5's)
2. 2 new powerheads (korialia 2's + my original seio620's)
3. new mag9.5 return pump
4. new ro/di unit
5. took half live sand out and washed it out
6. took all liverock out and scrubed it
7. left lights off for 3-5 days (while i was scrubing and washing)
8. added a refugium(actually not yet but its built, just need some algea to put in it.)
9. switched ballast to a icecap 660
10. one of those sand sifting gobys
11. severly cut down feeding to 2 times a week
12. severly cut down photo period to 4hrs a day....

along this 4 month process i have been changing water (20% a week) and i have been testing too and all has been normal....

what else could it be? i feed the same food i ve always done. cyclopese and spectrum pellets......

maybe that will be number 12....different food.....

any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....thanks for reading such a long message...

Diatoms are present in every reeftank. They are the basis of life. I wouldn't worry about it too much...it should go away on it's own. HTH:)
