Did I get the world's dumbest Goby?

So I acclimated a new pink-spotted shrimp goby into the main tank today. The other fish are a pair of clowns, a yellow tang, and a flame angel. So the new Goby looked around a bit and decided to hang out in a little cave...which happens to be where the Yellow Tang likes to hang out. Naturally, the Tang is hacked off, and is really threatening the goby, charging it and waving his spike at it. I can't break it up as they're down in the rocks. It looks like a knife fight in a phone booth.

So why doesn't the Goby leave? He's not really fighting back so much as just ducking and covering. There's 5 feet of tank for him to choose from. Is he just stupid? Do I need to tear the tank apart, or do you suppose he'll get the picture and flee. The Tang has always been very accomodating of other fish so long as they stay out of his cave. Dumb fish.

The goby is just scared, and is not familiar with the "5 feet of tank" avalable to it. It'll eventually get chased out of the cave, and hide somewhere else for a while. I wouldn't worry too much.

FWIW, if I had to choose a dumb fish, I'd pick tang every time. Cows of the seas. :D

Pink spotted gobies are pretty aggressive and don't take crap from anyone, I have a 6" long one that will go toe to toe with my 9" Sohal and he makes the Sohal back down.

I win the prize for dumbest goby of all time - I found one half of my randalls pair had got his head crushed in my gigas clam. At least thats how it looked when I got home.

Thats so true LOL

Hey guys. The Goby has found his way to the other end, and all seems well.

Do pink-spotted gobies dig? Because mine is not. I had a diamond goby for a year and a half, and he dug and burrowed constantly. The pink-spotted goby seems content to just hang around on the bottom, but seems uninterested in additional sandscaping. He's eating both flake and mysis, btw.

consider yourself lucky.. My goby got into a fight w/ my PBT and kept trying to jump out, half the time he would hit the plexi, but i guess one night he made it out the back! $20 gone :(

Glad to hear your goby found its spot.
