OK, you guys want to beat up on me then. :)

While a lot of people are hard set on QT, and I have nothing against it, it's not the end of the world if you don't do it.

I've been keeping SW fish since the late 70's. back then, we were still learning and had no idea of what QT was.

I still do not QT. But I also take time to watch the fish I'm thinking of purshasing as well as using good reputable LFS. My current tank as been set up oh for about 5 yeasr now. No issues with any of the fish I have kept. I've actually put a clown in the tank who had Ich. No other fish got Ich and the clown was cleared up within a week.

It's more of how you keep your system and what you do to maintain it. My belief is that if you keep it too sterile, then you wind up with a sterile tank and fish and any little thing that goes wrong has a greater impact on your fishes health. But if you let nature take it's coures on some things, then your fish will be healther. They will grow an immune system, same as we do. Again just my beliefs and observations of over 30 years of doing this. Your's may be different. ;)

NO. I said what I had to say and so did everybody else. The best thing is to close this thread because I made the ultimate sin. There are many opinions on quarantine and I decided not to with this fish and reasons stated. I think enough has been said. Thanks

And I never once got my back up.

So who determines that not QTing is the ultimate sin? You? Them? Some so called expert?

Well if it's the ultimate sin, then I must be the Devil. :)

Who knows? I don't quarantine all fish and that depends on several factors. I know many, many here that don't, that's up to the individual and that too depends on a lot of factors. This wasn't about arguing for or against QT. Thanks

Obviously lots of people do it, and lots of people get away for many, many years not doing it. Unfortunately it only takes one time to wipe out a tank that you may have taken years putting together. Look at Chingchai and his beautiful reef tank. He lost literally almost everything (I think one fish survived) in his tank a year or two ago due to an outbreak of velvet (from what I recall it was velvet).

That was over ten thousand dollars in fish, some of which are as close to irreplaceable as it gets in this hobby. I think the people advocating QT in this thread are just trying to stress to people casually reading this forum or this thread about how dangerous it is to add fish haphazardly to your DT can be.

No one is saying not QTing is the ultimate sin, but the problem with posts like the OP are, is it may give a false sense of security to the casual reader. People are quick to make a post like the OP, but conversely very few people are as willing to post when it blows up in their face and they wipe out a tank.

In my opinion, and RC staff/mods can correct me if I'm wrong, RC is all about putting the best information possible out there for people in this hobby to read. When a thread like this is created, people are rightfully going to respond, warning against what OP did and stressing the importance of QT. Several of the things the OP stated are misleading (ie. commenting on how well established his tank is), and obviously people are going to end up addressing those comments.

Good post and excellent evaluation.

I think alot of people need to grow up and just realize that what you advocate is fine.Just give this up. If you want to argue lets start another thread.Close this out. Snorvich why are you continuing to drag this on?

I do not advocate QT.with certain fish. Period. With areas of knowledge you have to agree? In the meantime enjoy your tank and CB is well on his way. Why do you belabor this? I asked to close and no close?

I told you how to get it closed; as Nike said: Just do it.. I think your original post was intended to be inflammatory and it went as expected. Just stop posting to the thread and as I suggested, ask for it to be closed.
