Digging sand from the ocean

I am going to be at Indian Rocks Beach (Tampa) next week for a beach vacation.

I am thinking about digging sand from the ocean and bringing it home with me.

How bad of an idea is this?

Depends on how polluted the water is. If it is just a swimming beach I dont know how much life would be in it.

I doubt it would be very "alive" by the time you got it home....... might be pretty hard to travel with, unless you're just talking about a small container of sand/water.

Why not just buy some regular sand and seed it with a cup of live sand from a local reefer? Another option would be to buy some live sand like this.

Sand along the shore contains alot of toxins such as fuel and industreal run off. For good live sand I would get it @ the base of the reef. Either way you are going to a better place than here!
