Digital Aquatics Archon Owners Thread

No there is nothing wrong with my router. Also I hard wire the controller in. It would have to be a very old router indeed to be too slow to handle the minimal data of the archon or reef keeper via Ethernet. It is an AC router. I have no problems with the current controller nor any of the many internet connected devices in the house.

I was thinking the same thing he was when I read your post. It could be some incompatibility too with something on your network like your router.

But if you hook directly into the unit and still have the issue it could be the computer or something on that computer.

With the apex when I log directly into it with explorer on my lap top it will sit there but with Firefox all is good.

I am not sticking up for DA because I have been following this thread from the beginning and this thing is not ready for market. I ended sticking my Apex on my aquarium after waiting months. I am in the process of setting another aquarium up but I am going to move the apex to it and put my DA RK lite back in service on the other tank.. I was hoping there was signs of improvement and put the Archon on the new tank instead of having to mess with moving the apex.. While it seems like it might be getting close it is not there. It might be for the beta tester who work with it all the time but this thing sounds like a nightmare to get going for someone else.

I am now at the point I am worried about the future of this unit. There is allot of competition coming up.

I had high hopes and my DA RK has always been a solid unit. Never a issue (knock on wood) since I am putting back in service.

The problem is not the router or the computer. This issue was seen using a few different routers and I use 3 different computers and my phone to access each system. The connection was slow every time on every device. Also like I mentioned have a bunch of other equipment in the house that has never had this problem. That is why I find it very strange that other people report the Archon responding quickly. Perhaps mine was just a bum unit.

I'm sure the're communicating with the beta testers, but whats the regular Paying customer to expect?

I'm not bashing them, I'm just very disappointed with them.

I'm a regular paying customer and have had great service and response from DA.

Sure, there have been some growing pains, but things are humming right along now.

I've got a fairly simple setup with my Archon monitoring pH and temp, controlling my ATO, simple on/off lighting, and a pair of SpectraPure dosing pumps for an auto water change system.

Future plans call for full Archon control of a couple LED fixtures, maybe some two part dosing and salinity monitoring (maybe a software upgrade to us the other pH/ORP port for salinity?). Oh, and Gyre control. This will all be for the 75 gallon tank sitting in my garage!

Danny/Lindsey - what's the latest versions? I am at SW 1.09.37 and HW1.08.10.

I see update available so do you know what diffs from SW version 37? Hoping HW is latest as I get scared when that needs updating :eek2::eek2::fun4:

My system has the following

Software version is: 1.09.39.
Hardware version is: 1.08.10.

I am not sure what the current non beta version is. It may be the same by now.

Iirc, the versions Danny posted are the current for all users. If you are not on this same software there may be a website update too. I know there were some changes in the main.js and the system page.

Difference to version 39 is timer fixes.

Lack of response on reef central

Lack of response on reef central

Note to all - due to issues with reef central not returning calls or emails(for almost a year), our forum here was closed, and we now have to watch what we post as it is not in our forum. We will be launching on another forum soon and will be posting information on our facebook page.

I have been a long time user of the RKE and have been on the edge for the past couple of years of switching to another controller because the net module never really worked properly and the 3 year wait for the SL2 to get fixed. Than I saw the Archon and thought I would wait as it looked to be promising. Than I saw that just the upgrade would cost me $400, the number of problems it still has even after being sold for more than 6 months and the support is still extremely lacking unless your a beta tester and have Eric's phone number. I can't justify the cost. I could sell my current system and pay less than $400 and get every module and power strip I have from APEX or Reef Angel. Digital Aquatics needs to do something to keep the existing customers they have or when we do decide to upgrade we will just go to another system. DA has alienated there customers for years and elmexotics post about they will be on another form shortly. It's been 10 months. A little slow are we. This goes to show the lack of support is still imbedded in the company. They have a lot of work to do to turn their image around.

Well I think that Archon rocks when it works. I am not so vain as to believe that none of my issues are self inflicted. My network admin skills and misc update/firmware foul ups are to blame for a fair portion of my Archon downtime.
A current issue is with losing all my PC4 info on the "outputs" screen and on the home screen. I am using Firefox and everything is peachy when I saved a setting change on a PC4 and bang... All three PC4's disappeared from view. I did a re boot but no joy. I'll post my current firmware and system file versions when I get home tonight.
Anybody have this issue before?

Overt are the PC4's performing what they were programmed to do? If they are not then it could be a different issue than if they are.

Im having some issues with mine. Im not able to log into mine anymore. I just get the prompt for user/pass, and it wont let me in. I tried to reset it, and the same. I tried to edit the accesslist file, and its coming up as a corrupted file. Can someone please tell me what should be in this file, and then I can just delete it and re-create it. Thanks.

Do you have a backup of the memory stick at all? Which file is it? Can you post the complete name xxxxxx.xxx for us.

I have to fully agree and I was in the same boat (I finally lost trust in my RKE and replaced it).

For years I overlooked a lot of problems with my RKE.
My SL2 Never worked right and the company has still not responded to my e-mails or calls about it.
The NET module even though I recently upgraded the firmware still does not allow full control.
The SID programmers I have (2) are unstable.
And in my experience the entire system is susceptible to interference.

I looked at the Archon and was not impressed and I'm led to believe
that due to the lack of using shielded or twisted pair cables the
interference susceptibility issues may also be present with the Archon.

BTW: Some may complain that I don't own an Archon, but I still own a
number of DA products and to me a large part of any system is the
company backing them. DA has and continues to fail me as a customer.
