Diodon holocanthus question

I was curious about the regenerative capabilities of the fins on these fish. Recently I bought (rescued) a porcupine puffer from one of the LFS, it was housed with a clown trigger that had nipped off 80% of the tail fin and a large portion of the two caudal fins. Other than the missing parts of the fins, the fish is eating (alot), quite plump, very active, and is the stereotypical curious puffer these are known to be.

I am curious if these fins will eventually regenerate or will the puffer have missing fins sections forever?
And if the do, how long till they regenerate?

I should add that the puffer seems to cruise around the tank quite well on its amputated fins. Other than the fins, I am very pleased with the fish and quite enjoy its playful nature.

Thanks
Paul

if he's eating and otherwise seems ok then I think they should grow back within a month. Be sure to soak his food in vitamins like selcon.

I agree & feed a variety of meaty foods, Octo, Squid, Raw Shrimp, Mussels, and so on.... I would also soak the foods in vitamins.

Good luck
Kaye
