I just had to pull my T. deresa out of my tank due to gaping. This was very odd because it had grown almost 2 inches in a 6 month period. When I pulled it out, a few small smooth oval snails with brown stripes crawled out. They aren't the typical pyramid snails that I've dealt with before. Upon further investigation, I removed 12 total snails from the interior of my clam. They are about 1-1.5 cm long and 0.5 cm wide. I'm now concerned about the health of my other two clams in the tank.

Can anyone please direct me to a clam parasite ID page?

The only reason I don't think they came in after the fact is I've never seen them on carrion in the tank before. The system has been set up for over 5 years. I've been in the hobby 10 years and have never seen them anywhere else. They look like tiny olive shell snails from the Carribean.

there aren't any clam predator ID pages, can you post a few good clear photos of them out of the tank both top of the shell and the opening

Whelks!

Whelks!

How does one get rid of Whelks, or assure that there are no more in a tank before adding a clam? Thanks!!

exactly, you have to become a snail hunter, creeping around at night and keep pulling them every time you see one.
