disappointed that my daughters thread was closed

I don't have a problem with a 9 year old posting here... in fact I would love to have a reef conversation with one - but I think it was in order for her to be supervised and her post made a little more readable. The skepticism wasn't created out of meanness - it was very suspect and the lack of replies made it worse - especially after searching through the OP's 5 other posts.

As far as moderation goes - I can't believe that's actually even a problem for anyone. Reef Central is one of the cleanest, safest, and friendliest online forums I have ever participated in. You won't get away with much here and that's one of the reasons I come here... people are almost guaranteed to keep level-headed - or the thread gets closed.

I read her post and I thought it could be a joke. Its very hard to tell on the internet if someone is joking around.

I agree with davidryder. Reef Central is much better then other forums. I feel that most people who keep saltwater fishtanks are somewhat educated and civilized. I think the moderators are doing a fine job around here.

very suspect? of what? why would you care if she's lying? how would your life or perspective had been different if she had lied?

I think he meant suspect that it was someone pretending to be a kid. I have seen many posts that you might be suspect of. For some reason people like to pretend they are someone else and stir up trouble on forums.

Not trying to get in a silly argument with anyone - just explaining my reasoning. And I certainly didn't expect to get such an emotional response - I honestly didn't think anything I said was too harsh. I just pointed out an observation while participating in the thread. I'm not sorry for anything - I just wish that it wasn't taken so personally. And to address your dramatic response: my life perspective will probably never be changed from my interactions on this forum. :frog:

I love kids - I used to work in a daycare, and I think I'm pretty good with them. But I wouldn't expect a 9-year-old to come onto an internet forum unsupervised.

thats ok. i was literally trying to figure out, why anyone would give a rusty red if someone was making stuff up. reading the responses, it seemed like a whole lot of people were offended this chick was trying to pull one over on you.

Debi, you don't need my approval so do as you like.

Who are you calling an oxymoron anyway?
Just so we are clear...I do not mean to call you lazy. I simply meant that just closing a thread without first trying to dissuade the usual suspects seemed to be the easy way out. It also seemed a little heavy-handed. "over-moderation" may have been redundant.
What "big story" do you believe I am trying to talk? How long do I have to be here before I am allowed to state my position?

I only read that locked thread once, but I do recall Debi posting in it a couple of times with gentle nudges reminding people to be nice.

Perhaps this isn't so much about one thread as other threads you've seen? Regardless, I don't see this thread lasting much longer, as all the points have been made by now.

I agree with Marc. So we are done. ;) No sense in beating this dead horse any more.
