Discovery Show "Tanked"

i haven't but i just found it on my DIRECTV (I work for them so pm me if you want cheap service). The show looks pretty cool. Gonna setup a series pass.
 
I have been hearing a lot about it from other aquarist. I would like to check it out when is it on?
My sister said on the previews that they make a aquarium out of a car??? Sounds pretty carzy/cool to me.
 
Great show they actually aired the first episode on Sunday the 7th not sure why there still advertising the premier on the 19th. The wife and I loved the first show it really hit home with all the daily anctics of running a service company. These guys are doing the kinda things I hope tulsa will eventually get a market for. I also loved seeing Justin from ERI since this is a guy i deal with on a monthly basis. All in all it was a fun show if you enjoy the extreme side of the hobby as viewed from the professional side of things.

It was a great sneak peak as they called it. I was geared for entertainment purposed and I loved that. People on other forums are frouning on it because it doesn't go in depth on the hobby, but hey lets be realistic. entertainment will allways do better than tutorial or instructional.
 
I've been looking forward to seeing it. Sucks I missed the sneak peak. Yeah, you can go to youtube if you want an instructional video on reef keeping. Looks like it's going to be a cool show.

Show was interesting,

2 new yorkers running a business in las vegas dealing with high end clients. They explained a quarantine tank and built a 30k quarantine system for one of their clients, had 4 tanks stacked, looked like they all 4 used one filter system, that they plumbed outside the house, how cool would that be to be in a environment to place your filter system outside.

All of thier stuff is acrylic tanks, they did build a system for a owner of a custom car shop, they bought a junk milk wagon, cut it in half, painted it, placed it over a steel frame tank system. You topped off water through the gas cap. They a rock encrusted steering wheel, and fuzy dice.

They said it usually takes 5 to 6 weeks to start and finish a system. Think they meant prominately fish only tanks. Didnt see anything in sneak peak that could be considered a reef or coral system. I am ready to see more and see what kind of details they might go into as far as systems and methods.

Creative Cool Stuff, way, way, way outside my budget.
 
seriously, who saw that show last night. I wonder how many "hours" it took for some of those fish to die after they put them in a brand new tank. Really the L tank in the hotel, like 30 boxes of fish going into fresh made salt water with tap water!
 
If they've figured out some magic to get those fish to live and be healthy when setting up a system like that I'd really like to know.
 
I almost wonder if they out the fish in at a different time than install, but would make it seem like one big event for TV. just kind of my thought around it. It was pretty confusing though.
 
Your probably right. they shot the build, then came back after the tank cycled. But, they were making such a big deal that they couldn't throw the fish right in because the water (from the hose!) was too hot........ very odd...
 
I know that the N. Lipstick tang(may have been a blondie) that they kept showing after the fish were put in looked like he had been running a marathon,he was huffing and puffing like crazy(poor thing was freaking out!!).
I also thaught it was a joke that he had to tell his whole crew that the water was to hot for the fish,and these guys are pros ????
There are NO maintanence buisnesses in tulsa that I know of that would have people on the crew that do not know the temp the water should be at imo.

Gotta love the tap water and no live rock also?
 
Have to agree with Scott… I couldn’t believe they put so many beautiful fish in a tap water tank.. I could almost understand if they had brought in 70% cycled water to start it out but everyone knows the tank would even then go thru a mini cycle… Seems like it’s a tank death trap. I could be wrong but I would put good money that a lot of those fish don’t make it… If they are doing something different than what it looks like they should let everyone know at the end of the show that certain steps were used and not shown due to TV time restraints. They seem to be very good at what they do. Only problem is it could mislead a lot of new hobbyist into thinking what they show works…
 
i like the concept of the show, but its been dramatized, and makes this hobby likes like a "ho-hum" affair where you just buy a tank, fill it up with a hose, put salt and fish in and NOTHING is going to die. IMHO i dont like this show, i think it promotes poor husbandry and brings an unsavory element to the hobby that many people have worked for many years to achieve sustainability. I feel sorry for those fish
 
I'm going to have to agree, that episode wasnt right. I understand why they were telling the installers not to put the fish in because the water was too hot, that's tv drama there. But using the hot tap water to fill it? And people pay them multi thousands of dollars to set up tanks for them ? I really expected to see them have some sort of system to have filters broke in and ready to deploy and some sort of giant water truck.
I'd like to see them show them building one of the filter systems, get into the detail some.
Right now, id say they are very good at building custom tanks and spending lots of money flying to la to hand pick fish, i wondering if they get to do that alot to replinish the fish that get lost.
 
I think the show is edited together to make for good TV. I really don't think they became the company they are throwing fish in tap water and killing them. The reality of the show is it's more about the drama than the actual tanks. I honestly think the tanks they set up showed a lot of creativity and imagination I've seen far worse examples of poor tank keeping.
