Minh, that's a real heart breaker what happened with your malu. Beautiful nems they were. And to think it was on the verge of babies... How they grew/survived could have really been good info.

Tentacles of a healthy Gigantea, notice the tapper shaped tips. Haddoni's tentacles often enlarged and blunted tip.

Pink/red Haddoni. this one just made do with the condition of the tank. They really need deep sand bed

Same anemone, different tank and different light

Comparing tentacles of Haddoni, Mertensii and Gignatea. Haddoni tentacles are blunted with slight enlargement near the tips. Shape to Mertensii and Gigantea tentacles are the same except Mertensii tentacles are longer near the center.

One word of caution, these rules only apply to healthy anemones. All bets are off when we look at stressed like newly imported anemones. It take multiples minor characteristics to ID an anemone, especially a stressed anemone. One cannot put everything into just one characteristic and make positive ID due to this character alone in disregard to other finding. Sometime I seen and keep anemones that have characteristic of both Haddoni and Gigantea. Most likely these anemones are hybrid of the two species.

Lol, it was in the middle of Mihn's full page of pics. I thought it was his brown Gig . The tentacles seem slightly longer than other picks I e seen so I just pat over it.

Adtravels, looks like you have percs in your mertens, right? Have you seen them rip off tentacles and eat them? I've watched for the last few weeks with mine. I had a dozen baby onyx percula. Not just one, multiple different clowns, would rip off tentacles and eat them. I got rid of my last trio of chocolate glaze clowns because of this. Last night/dark morning (with a cup), I removed my clowns. They don't do this with gigs. Only mertens. Have you noticed this behavior with yours?
