Disgusting.

Ever since I moved my sump downstairs, there has been more moisture in the room. This is not a question about the moisture. This is a question on what it attracts.

House Centipede.

The research on these indicate that these are harmless insects. It goes further to say that they are beneficial because they eat other insects in your home.

Has anyone dealt with these before?

I had one in my cube one day at work. It completely freaked me out. I don't care if they eat other bugs or not! It's like something out of a nightmare. I still freak out about it

I HATE house centipedes. Dont get me wrong- I like bugs in general, but something about those in particular just make my skin crawl. Earwigs too. Id squish every one of em. My sump room gets them once in a while- nice warm, humid, dark basement room. Wish I still had my hedgehog- I would let her run patrol in that room... might need to get another one. Basic sump room equipment list- rubbermaid stock tank, PVC, skimmer, pygmy hedgehog.

had one come out of the shower drain 2 days ago. i wish I could dance that well in high school.........

looked like psycho meets justin timberlake.....

They always freak my wife out. We kill them whenever we see them. I suspect they were always in your downstairs, but now that you spend more time there because of your sump you have a higher chance of seeing them.

OH GOD

We had these at my parents house (just moved out over the summer) and I hate them about more than anything else. I hate bugs so much it makes me mad. These are really fast too. I scream like a little girl and get someone else to kill it. I used to see them crawl up the wall and I wouldn be able to sleep the rest of the night, I would just watch TV with all the lights on.

We called them thousand-leggers.

Just killed one of them this morning; this sucker was at least 3" long too! I spent weeks trying to identify what they were when I started noticing them more frequently. Either way, I find a few a week, and it freaks me out EVERY time!!

I've seen about 4-5 of these in my basement where the tank(s) are. I don't think the humidity from the tank attracts them but it does keep them more comfortable.

They scare the hell out of me when I feed in the morning. If the vacuum isn't near by the corals might not get fed.

I used to live in a really old house (read: lots of ways for things to get in) and had dozens of tanks in the basement. Those suckers were all over. I get the heebee jeebees just seeing them.

OH GOD...

...We called them thousand-leggers.

:lolspin: Wouldnt that be a millipede though? Or a 'hundred legger' in this case. Oh, wait, NM, I just saw the NC. :smokin:

*** is that!!! HeHe...I live in Florida where bugs are common, but I would use a super can of raid with that thing!!! Wow, he'd probably just huff the fumes and move on too.....Nasty little bugger!!!

After I had a surgery I was laid up on the couch for the first couple days. I couldn't move too well or very fast. One of those crawled across the top of the couch, scared the crap out of me. I knew I had to do something or I wouldn't be able to sleep in there. So I hobbled into the kitchen and got the Swiffer sweeper. I don't think any bug has been that flattened before. I think it hurt me as much as it hurt him.

They are very juicy when you kill them, which makes it more gross. After reading some more, they commonly live in buldings only. It makes sense that I am down there more so the probability of running across them is greater. The odd thing is that I have a living room down there as well. Its a seperate room but hardly see them there. I thought there was a corrolation between moisture and these bugs.

I get those in my basement fish room all the time. I'm kinda lax about vacuuming the floor in there so it generally gets a nice dusting of salt from the salt spray. The centipedes crawl in and usually end up dessicated from the salt by half-way across the room. Plenty of carcasses to pick up. Ick.

I read somewhere that they commonly come in basement windows and unsealed doors. so if you're looking for a reason to improve that weather stripping, this may be it! :)

I've put a piece of screen under the floor drain cover in the basement so they can't crawl out of the weeping tiles.

There is a powder you can get that you sprinkle along your foundation to kill them. I never have bothered though. Maybe once I finish the basement I will.
