I may be further complicating things for no good reason, but here goes....
You can make Washing Soda yourself by baking plain old Baking Soda in your oven. It seems like too much trouble to me, but if you check out the Chemistry forum here at RC, DR. Randy Holmes-Farley has posted the "recipe" several times.

I appreciate the suggestion, but with my long laundy list (no pun intended) of things that need to be done on my 300 Gallon build and the new Frag tank I purchased, the $3.47 for the Soda wash was definately worth buying it
