ditch the mp40's or fix them?

One of my mp40 detached from the tank and fell into my ato tank..... grrr, its only a year old. I dried it out and it starts up but I'd say the bearings took in water and they screach like mad under load. so Id like to replace the bearings and washers. Low and behold mp40 number 2 has loud bearings so I need to replace them also...

so I've got a pair of these 450 dollar super pumps that are failing me in less than 2 years.... do I say screw it and buy a new dry side and then source bearings to fix both dryside or do I say the heck with them and buy knock off wp40 or wp25 pumps, that is my question....

I do run 3 radion pros, 2 mp40s, and a reef link so I've got a lot invested in ecotech to say the least. I'm just not sure if I'd rather keep on with the expensive and maintenance hungry ecotech line or just purchase the disposable wp pumps for less than half the price of an mp40.

Interested in hearing people's opinions and thoughts, thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear your about misfortune, I would fix them.

Any way to keep them from falling again?

I do not own any ectotech products, too pricey for me, I use tunze.

Yea can secure them easy enough but I'm not looking forward to replace loud worn bearings every couple years or so. But aftermarket bearings are cheap providing can find a retailer

You need to secure the dry sides. If a snail gets in them the wet side can come off.

Replace the bearings. Be careful when doing so.

Have you contacted ecotech about your situations?

The bearings are easy to get, Eastern Automation usually has them in stock. If not, Motion Industries can get them as well.
I just replace the pair of bearings in one of my MP10's, cost me $12.

That's why you should always use the stick on bracket and zip tie on the power cord, it can't fall with those in use.

Not sure if you know or not about our local forum - www.mainefragswap.com

Ya I know it's my fault, upgraded the tank and never got new tabs and wire ties... but is what it is. Thanks for the heads up on the parts stores

I found the problem that made the pumps detach, it was the plastic nut on the end of the prop. It was slightly stripped and did not hold its torque therefore it backed out and caused the impeller to push into the backing plate of the pump body and then the pump became detached. So it wasn't a snail after all....

Found a plastic spacer that was threaded correctly for the prop shaft so I grabbed that and a dremel to clean up the damaged plastics ... knock on wood it's running great for the last 6 hours

Meh...I'd go with the wireless Jebao RW-15 wavemaker

Same flow (maybe more) and they are $85 to $95 each. (depending where you shop)

I have an MP40 and it's a great product, but when the fan costs as much as a whole powerhead that can do the same thing, I will just go with the cheaper powerhead.

Just had one of my about one year old jebaos quit on me, I'm gonna ante up for a gyre personally, pay now or pay later I guess

I would go with RW's, as I and many others have had good luck with Jebao's. I owned an MP10, and an WP25. The WP25 was quieter, I liked that a lot. My MP10 was the loudest piece of equipment on my tank.

I just bought a RW4 for my new tank.

My mp10wes is silent the fan on my kessil 350 is louder than my mp. Just gotta find the sweet spot while adjusting wet/dry side where it doesn't whine or chatter. I would replace your mp bearings if it's only $12.

I ended up buying a used dry side from a friend with intention to replace the bearings in old dryside and knock on wood the repaired wet side is still working nicely

I've really been hoping the ecosmart program will eventually turn into a controller but it aggravates me to no end trying to program the stupid vortechs.... the drag a drop method would be slick if it was user friendly. Just tough getting through there bugs and lack of direction
