Im from ohio and immoving to Ma over the summer. Im looking for some places to dive. Does anyone know of any places? ALso do most people use dry suits or wet suits. I use to sail out in bruster (sp) over hte summers and i know the water if kinda cold. We used dry suits for sailing, so im guessing dry suits for diving too?

haha thanks well I mean im getting my wet suit training in a few weeks so I might as well use it. I know there is a diving club there and they go all summer.

There are several local clubs, and quite a few people who dive in the summer. Some dive all year round. Most of the diving is from the Goucester/Rockport in the north, or off the south shore or Cape Cod. I like driving down to Rhode Island to dive around Newport, where it's typically 10 degrees warmer.

Right now the water temperature is in the upper 30s. By June it will be in the 50s in shallow areas. The warmest diving is Aug-Oct, when you will find it in the 60s at the surface, and all the way up to the lower 50s at depth. Many people do use drysuits. I tend to only dive during the warmer months, and wear a 7mm semi-dry.

My club is the New England Aquarium Dive Club, see www.neadc.org for info.

Do you guys in MA use nitrox or just air? I was thinking of getting nitrox done now too while im getting everything done.

Jeepman, were you joaking or maybe a typo regarding wetsuit training?!?!? Absolutely get certified for nitrox!!!!!!! More and more instructors are teaching nitrox along with basic open water and I think it should amost become a necesity. There are two downfalls to Nitrox, one you really have to watch your depth. Nitrox 32 is very popular and you have a Maximum Operating Depth of 111 feet. The higher the percentage of O2 the shallower the MOD. The other downfall to Nitrox is it costs more. My LDS charges $3 for air $8 for nitrox up to 40%

I've been diving air here going on 7 years now
We do mostly shore dives
Only reason I want Nitrox Cert is for Vacations
