DivingTheWorld's Custom Leemar 80g Rimless Reef

This weekend I installed my two Radion XR15w Pros and spent the first half of Sunday getting them hooked up to my Apex and Fusion. I still need to get a program figured out (doing some experimenting). If anyone has a good SPS growing Radion graph in Fusion they want to share...

Here's a pick of just after I installed them with just the default Radion program.

They look very blue in person. I'm hoping to figure out a way to balance making them more natural looking as well as providing optimal light for SPS. But they definitely seem plenty bright.

I'm afraid quarantine is not an option, wife wouldn't approve it. I spent enough so I don't want to push it. I'll dip all the corals entering the tank, but not a lot I can do for the fish...

Do only fresh cut Sps and dip. AEFW just drop off when dip in ReVive.
I made a mistake once and kept the base of a coal and sure enough AEFW. I had to setup a QT tank. I had to keep that going for about a year. :(
If the fresh cut don't make it then either frag is not going to survive anyway or your water isn't ready.

what kind of bracket are you using? does it attach to the rim of tank? I'm using the hanging kit and don't really like it.

I'm using two RMS XR15 Tank Mounts. They mount directly to the glass on my rimless, but also include an adapter for rimmed aquariums.

They are very cool mounts, good and solid, but I have an issue with one where it's not level and droops slightly in the front. EcoTech is sending me a new one to replace it. Their support has been very helpful.

Incidentally, I've been messing around with my spectrum and have settled on the following. I found that 10,000k most closely matched what I used to have with my MH and seemed natural. Let me know if anyone has suggestions for changes. Ultimately I plan to be mostly SPS with some Zoas.

So what are you planning to stock in it now that it's up and running?

SPS and Zoas. In my true style I'll be taking it slow. I have a cleanup crew coming from Reefcleaners Friday. I'll add them, then some more fish one or two at a time, over another couple weeks to a month to make sure no parameters get out of whack.

Then I need to get my dosers set up and get Calcium, Alk, and Mag dialed in. Then...I'll look into adding corals.

I want a lot of color. No brown stuff! I'd love to get an Oregon Tort, a few different colors of Monti, maybe some bright pink or green birdsnest. So much to choose from out there, I'm in no hurry.

Thought I'd give a quick update. The tank now has 9 fish plus a cleaning crew (hermits and 4 different kinds of snails) from Reefcleaners.

Current fish are:

3 Green Chromis
3 Banggai Cardinals
3 Bartlett's Anthias

I haven't started dosing yet and the skimmer is still breaking in. I discovered that I was calculating my Alk using the wrong measurement. It's still low, but not as bad. Here's current measurements:

Ammonia 0.00 ppm
Nitrite 0.05 ppm
Nitrate 5 ppm
Phosphate 0.02 ppm (First trace)
Calcium 449 ppm
Alkalinity 6.216 dKH (tested with Red Sea and Hanna)
Magnesium 1350ppm
Salinity 1.026
pH 8.09

I'm planning to do my first water change today.

My Radions seem to be dialed in now. I have an issue with one RMS in which a replacement is in route.

The last thing I need to add is a set up pumps for flow. I was planning on adding two MP-40's (waiting for Black Friday), but now I see this new MaxSpect Gyre XF150 which has me thinking...

Quick update. The tank is doing well and all fish are staying healthy and eating. Friday I added two Picasso clowns and two Cleaner shrimp. Up to 11 fish now which may be my total. I'm sort of considering a Yellow Coris Wrasse, but we'll see. So far I haven't seen any in the lfs.

I'd really like to add a very blue fish. Damsels are out due to aggression, and tangs are out due to tank size. Any other suggestions for a reef safe, non aggressive blue fish?

I discovered tonight that the 10 little blue leg hermits I had added have been committing some murder amongst my cleanup crew... I should have know better, but I didn't have shrimp yet and figured they could clean up larger pieces of food if they dropped.

I think I'll probably replace the hermits with another pair of shrimp, maybe Blood Red Fire Shrimp this time. 4 shrimp should be able to keep up with larger debris.

Right now my cleanup crew from Reefcleaners is Ceriths, Nassarius, and Nerite snails. The hermits have been murdering some of the larger Ceriths. I don't have plans for soft corals, just SPS and Zoas, so hopefully the shrimps won't bother any feeding they do.

I've never had long term success with a Reefcleaners crew. Number-wise, the per unit cost is cheap, but they're typically too small and made a mess of my tank. I had little shells all over the tank. I've since moved on to the typical Mexican turbos and astreas, as well as a few Nassarius in the sandbed. I have no hermits or shrimp in the DT. In case I have red bugs I can bomb my tank with Interceptor without worrying about killing any crabs or shrimp.

When the snails get too big they get moved into the sump to clean up any nuisance algae growing on the chaeto.

Well, I suppose I'm due for an update...

Yesterday I had my first fish demise. It was not killed or diseased and if it carpet surfed, I was unable to find a trace. It was my larger female Bartlett's Anthias and I'm not too happy about it. We do have a cat so it's possible that it jumped and the cat finished it off, but she's a picky eater... The fish just vanished.

I'm hoping it's just hiding (never has in the past) and will turn up. So far I've been very lucky with my fish. All eat and there has been no sign of disease.

I've been keeping up with maintenance with the help of my Aquarimate app. I replace my main drain sock every 4 days or so, Carbon every 2 weeks, GFO every 4. I've been doing an approx. 20g water change once per month and so far have not needed to dose. Water parameters are all staying in check and still no phosphates to speak of.

I now have a few corals, a couple from stores and a couple in trade from another reefer. So far I have:

1 no name red SPS from Cal Reef Co. I guess I should have written down the name, but I'm not a huge fan of how it looks and I may trade it away at some point. It seems to be doing great.

2 Bam Bam Zoas
1 Rasta Zoa
A colony of Ring of Fire Zoas
1 Green Montipora
Multiple Red Montipora

I picked up the red montipora yesterday and in my attempt to pop it off the plug ended up with about 5 red montipora... So I mounted two to my rock and then glued a couple of plugs to see how my first fragging goes!

Incidentally, I thought I'd offer a quick review of my new Eshopps corner frag rack. The picture showed black magnets. Instead it comes with bright ugly blue magnets that stand out like a sore thumb. Also my glass is 1/2" and the magnets barely hold. I think I'll be looking for something better in the near future...

I have found my missing fish inside the overflow several times in the past. Making a cover for the overflow and a mesh cover for the tank will save $$ in the long run.

The Melanurus wrasse is a beautiful fish that's blue with red stripes and it's reef safe -highly recommended for an sps tank.

Yeah, my overflow has a cover and a I also have a strainer on my main drain pipe. But just the same, I checked the overflow, both socks and sump. No luck...

The eshopps frag racks suck, I have had several of their magnets rust and leak in my tank. From your picture it looks like the magnets are already rusting.
