Ordered Heat Sink
Ordered Heat Sink
I had been debating getting 3 8-inch x 12-18inch heat sinks and then trying to figure out how to install them under my canopy. My canopy comes off as one piece and has no front entry. So I want to have my lights when I have the canopy off working on the tank.
I changed gears and ordered a thinner 4.85 inch heat sink but it is 71 inches long so I should be able to mount it on on the ends of the display tank and it go across the whole thing. So I have pulled the trigger on the heat sink but I want a little advise on which LEDs to order. Here is what I am going to order unless someone talks me out of it.
These are the soldierless LEDs I am thinking about. My tank is 72 inches long, 14 inches long on the end and 24 inches in the middle (bowfront), and 27 inches deep.
18 Cool white
10 Neutral White
28 Royal Blue
11 Blue
3 Cyan
14 UV
That would be 84 LEDs and should be enough to grow SPS and a broad spectrum of color. Going by the rule of thumb 72 * 19 = 1368 1368 / 18 = 76 So 76 LED should be enough and 84 should be more than enough. This is also going to be 3:1 blue if you consider Royal Blue, Blue, Cyan, and UV all blue LEDs.
Whites would be divided among 2 drivers, Royal Blues on another 2, UV on a driver, and Blue/Cyan on yet another driver for a total of 6 drivers.
Still deciding if I am going to get a controller or do potentiometers to control the brightness. Would need 4 controls for whites, RB, Blues, and UV.
Opinions?
