DIY Live Rock Meet

If anyone is interested in making "egg plugs" (see pictures below), save those egg cartons. The best kind from what I've seen are the styrofoam type, they don't get soggy and are reuseable.

Egg plugs are great for attaching frags to. I use the same type of rock mix for these as I do for the DIY Live rock. So if interested, please bring some empty egg cartons along with you.

First picture is of a fresh batch of "egg plugs" and the second picture is after drying and during the curing process.

That's a great idea! This is great... how many can you host at this workshop? It sounds like we may have a good turnout... shall we look into a space or do you think you will be okay?

Be sure to send the date, time and directions (esp the date and time) I would like to get word of this out there....

Denise

I'll set the date for April 2nd at noon. We may need to get a space to do this, my apartment isn't very large and it won't be too much to travel with the supplies.

I was reading a post where this guy added small PVC elbows or pcs of PVC to make hide outs. This is gonna be fun... cannot wait for this meet!

What will we need if we ask for a space... basically table space and access water I assume? Guess electricity and bathrooms would be nice too :D

Is it easy to keep the work area fairly clean of LR matter or shall we try to get tarps to protect the floors ?

I have plenty of space but it appears that some of the interested persons are from your area...

Denise

Yeah Denise, your place WOULD be great. You have lots of room and waterproof floor, etc. I WOULD like to tour John's tank(s) though. Keep us posted. Sue

table and water will be fine, it's not hard to keep this clean, I've done it quite a few times in my apt. with no spills or mess.

I am having a hard time finding styrofoam egg crates.... how much of a big deal is this?

Can this sutff be hand-shaped at all?

Denise

you can use the other style egg cartons, they just get a little soggy, but still do the same job in the end.

you can hald mold some shapes if the mixture is right, i haven't tried anything hand molded yet, but i'll start doing my research.

Waterville area... there are a few addicts in the Gardiner area, Newport, Nobleboro and a few up your way.... hope to see you at the next meet! If you want to send me your email address, I can add you to our email list....
Welcome!
Denise

Anna brought up the idea of having the meet at her store, so I just wanted to see if everyone wanted to meet there. I'll check with her today and see how many she can fit.

Denise, with your supplies and mine, we should be able to make quite a bit of DIY live rock with supplies left over most likely.

Anna's is Coastal Aquatics in Freeport. I believe it IS going to happen but not sure where yet. Keep us posted. Sue
