DIY lumen___ reflectors

Anybody around here DIY a lumenarc/lumenbright/lumenmax/lumen...awesome style reflector? Is HD or Lowes the best place to buy the MIRO-SILVER material?

I printed out the plans for a LA mini (14") full size.

are you talking about flashing, Dan? I'm working on the 120g canopy right now...just getting to that point.....I've got my eye on the stuff at HD. Kinda hoping the S.O. can take it to work and have the guys in the machine shop polish it up even more....

nope, not flashing - there is something that lumenarcs and lumenbrights are made of called MIRO-SILVER which is 95-98% reflective (coated) aluminum. Supposedly they are sold as solar lights at HD and Lowe's but I haven't checked.

For the lumenarc mini copies you need a 21-1/5" sqaure piece - according to the drawing I have. I need to make at least two of them.

If you really want to do it right, I can have them laser cut as well. A few won't justify the set-up time on the laser though.
For those real industrious / capitalists, I have pallets of M59 ballasts (not new, but CHEAP!!) I could let go for next to nothing as well. Even batwing style reflectors (I can laser and bend), a mogul, and viola a MH retro kit for a fraction of the cost of OEM.

ok, sales guy....that means you have connections. so, sales guy, what are we lookin' at here...spill it Steve...you've been holding out on me......lol.

Steve, what do you think it would cost to get them laser cut? Is there a flat setup charge? I can give you solid models or 2d drawings or whatever you need.

Also, there's a few types of MIRO and I think it's the "Silver" stuff that is the latest and greatest.

I don't hold out on anybody Kat. I've been at manufacturing longer than the average age of RC members. I think I told you that in our first communica when you asked about, and I offered to build airframe construction style 6061-T6 frames for your west coast project, remember?

oh yeah................you sure did!!!!!! i totally remember that now. But I never knew how you knew you could do that!

I've made and currently make light reflector housings for a semi-local book digitizing company. They use the textured finish, 98% reflective.

For our applications, frankly I believe it's a waste of money to buy the best. The salt will have 98% reflective down to 80% in days. I can do it out of anything though.

Laser set up is about $100. Operating cost is strictly a function of cutting speed. ie: inches per minute. Engineering + Material + machine time = $elling price. That holds for anything. Aluminum, Stainless, Plastic, anything. I can do it. (no spacecrafts please. Liability, ya know?)

Higher volume means amortizing set up across that many more parts!!
