DIY Maxi-jet Mod

I think the general consensus is to not run them on a wavemaker. I didn't read that when I ordered my kits. Some do though and I'd like to use my aquacontroller to control them. The experts even don't seem to like the use of wavemakers on any p.h. so I'm torn between trying it or not. My stoppers don't seem to stop the backspin so I need to lengthen the stopper I guess or they need to loosen up for the blade to move up and down more and hit the stopper.

Wavemakers are ok if you have a properly working stopper on the mod. The MJ's seem to be the best for wavemakers unmodded and many think they are fine with the mod to work on a wavemaker. Of course, like Roy pointed out, there are people who don't think WM's are a good idea. But they are the ones that still think that bio-balls are a good idea. :)

The main thing if you want to try the wave makers is make sure you have a properly fitting stopper to prevent the suchi mod from occuring.

I've got 2 of them in the tank now! 2 of the high flow mods with 2 seio 1500's. My tangs are swimming full speed and not going anywhere! Just kidding. Now 7000gph of in tank and 1000 gph of main pump.

I can't see the tank anymore because there's too many ph's! J/K. I'll get one sometime this weekend. I'm on actinics and I can't get a pic to show from my camera. Oh heck I'll go try.

Lights weren't warmed up but it was enough to get the pic to come out at least.

dang that the new tank? I cannot believe your coraline growth..

How do you have them monted? What is the flap over the top of them?

Yea and you need it with the high flow mod too! That's the new tank. I have a hate/love relationship with coralline. I was already scraping the viewing panes in less than a week.

Sorry gang been swamped at work and haven't been on the boards much lately. I have contacted Snarkys and waiting on a response.

So far interested:

ramtheory asked me to stop in an answer a few of your questions here : )

first off someone asked if you should use a 1200 in a 30g . absolutely not : )
maybe the medium flow if positioned right and you don't have any big softies , we are also working on some low flow mods ATM.

also as someone already mentioned , don't use these with the suction cups , doubly so if you have sand . they will fail and it will make a real mess of the tank.

I personally would never use these on a wave maker , this is why. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=933344 . however i have heard mixed reports about the sieo controller, would be reall cool if that worked out ...

lastly i am no longer able to offer group discounts because i have priced them to be extremely competitive already. came down to a choice , give everyone a good deal or save it only for big orders and i just chose to give it to everyone : )

if you have any questions , don't be shy. i am more than glad to help

No, because the only difference is the amount of power consumption by the pump, they're the same size impellers.

BTW, I broke one of my impeller's. Anybody have a spare impeller? The magnet broke on mine.

most people run smaller props like the octura 1435 on the 900 and the flow is substantially lower. . i would run it in a 30 if it was only sps. LPS and leathers would prolly just get blown all over and shrink up.

I just completed a 1200 low flow mod and it is very noisy. the other one is currently drying and I will test it out Monday. I plan on taking apart the noisy one to see if I can figure out why it is noisy. If I can't it looks like I may be tossing it.

Anyone have any ideas as to why it is noisy?
