DIY MaxiJet Stream (Pic Intense)

All the welding rods have that on them but it is easy to remove by tapping it lightly with a hammer and use sand paper to smooth it.

Will sanding it degrade the finish and make it prone to rusting?

If it's solid 316 SS I guess it wouldn't but .... ?

I think the filler rods used in TIG welding, which is probably what tgfrench bought, don't have a coating on them like regular arc welding electrodes do. The filler rods used in TIG welding are just metal rods I believe but I may be wrong.

FYI -

As other's have said, I'd like to keep the info in this thread even if it ever gets pulled off RC by the mods. I've pulled the thread up to this point and saved it to disk. Anyone have thoughts about using acrylic tube for the housing? I am thinking of trying this and thought it would be pretty cool especially with the colored translucent stuff.

XP should have a built in zip utility that will extract it when you double click. If not, got to shareware.com and download one.

Just click on the file "DIY_maxijet_tunze.htm". That is all you need to do.

I did a "Save webpage as" for all the pages and then merged them all together by copy/pasting the HTML into a single page.

To view the webpage, use Winzip to extract (or the built-in uzip feature in windows XP) and save them to your desktop or anywhere. Then double click the "DIY_maxijet_tunze.htm" and it should open up in your web browser.

Anyone used other props beside the hammer prop? The local hobby shop I went to was out of them, and only had a limited number. I'm going to a different one tonight with a bigger selection, but they still don't have a hammer prop in stock. Tower & omnimodels are both out until late july, and that's too long IMO.

Maybe it's worth putting together a list of recommended props

I'm running a hyosho D40XP 1.6 on both a 900&1200 mj. my 900 seems to pull it better though. hmmm can't for the life of me figure that one out. I'm going to open up the intake throat a little this weekend should help it.

I am thinking about making a sleeve instead of using rigid air tubing. I am thinking about using Delrin. does anyone know if delrin is glueable?

Ok, I tried doing this mod tonight, but am having some trouble attaching the tubing to the prop.

I tried cutting out notches in the tubing so that it matched the prop's pitch and it slides over the prop shaft, but it keeps shearing off the notches after a few wet tests.

Can someone explain how they attached the prop to the tubing?

Besides, I made one using my Maxi 1200 without success. It turns the right direction (outside the tank) every time with your new mod, I thought it was great then when I put it in the tank, it turns the wrong direction after 5-10 seconds. I took it out of the tank ( still running) and it turns back to the right direction but when I put it back to the tank and it turns the wrong direction again( no water flow out). I tried it many times and can't figure out what is wrong with it. [/B]

I have had the same problem - i went with the 1.5" test cap and female adapter and drilled out as much as possible, but the 1200 is just to much and quickly reverses the flow.....might need a larger diameter piece of pvc.. who knows?!!

Mikebranson, your prop is meeting too much resistance....you either need to open your intake up more or modify or use a smaller prop that will turn easier. I had the same problem with my 900 on a prop...all I had to do was modify the pro a little by trimming the edges and now it works great.

I think I am having the same problem with too much resistance. It will work when I have it slightly above water but as soon as I try to totally submerge it will stall. So, frustrating I didn't use the hammer prop as they didn't have it at the store I went to. I used a prop that is blue and the guy said that it would be very similar. How do I trim the blade to decrease the resistance? The prop that I am using is the blue two blade Kyosho D40x P1.6

Also, originally I thought that it might be a problem with my intake so I completely took it off to see if it would run with just the prop with me holding the other end and it still stalled????
