DIY Screen Cover

Since my aquarium is open on the top I wanted to prevent my fish from making that horrible transition to fish sticks so this was my solution. I picked up the screen kit from homedepot for $13 and the 1/4 clear netting from bulk reef for $6 I only ended up using 10% of the $6 piece. This took about 1.5 hours from start to finish and it looks great I think.

That looks real nice. I need to do something like that with mine. Does the screen interfere with the lighting much?

I would like to use a par meter to be certain but i don't think so, unfortunately are eyes can't really notice a difference unless its a major change.

Thanks for posting - I'll be going to HD for the aluminum frame. I didn't know they had the generic frame kits. I think that I will make two screens so that I can open one without removing the canopy for feeding/maintenence.

has it been on long enough to see what kind of salt creep you are going to get?

I haven't had any salt creep really. My rim has always been really clean I just keep it wiped down.

I have a 29g biocube and was wondering if there was any way to roll the frame to match the curved glass on the front?

I wouldnt now how to do that off hand, although I Imagine if you notched one side of the frame you might be able to put a small curve to it.

so several little cuts down the length of it to bend it a little at a time. might just work and its cheap enough to give it a try. i'd really like to be able to keep a mckosker's flasher wrasse but tank would definately need to be covered.

Should work. If it does then once you get your curve down see if you could fill the cuts with jb weld or something that bonds to metal then spray paint with krylon black paint it may look like it was made for your tank!
