DIY spot feeding tool

I've been wanting to spot feed my Open Brain coral since i saw it with its sweepers out, but with the high water flow and the fact its on the sand bed, this presented a problem. My solution was to get a small dowel rod about 24" long from the local hardware store that fits loosely into a section of airline i had laying around. I sharpened a point on the end of the dowel to spear the chunk of squid, and cut the tubing about 2" shorter than the dowel rod. Then slide the tubing over the dowel. Once the food is speared you can position the rod to where you want the food to end up and then simply slide the tubing down to knock the food off the end and into the hungry waiting mouth!

I bought some plastic tongs from RMS which work good also. Is the dowel rod made of wood? If so, I would be careful with bacterial build up--I had used a bamboo skewer to place some shrimp in a pico tank to feed the benthic feeders, and after a few uses a slimy goo came out of it and wiped the tank out. I felt that the wood was porous and kept moisture around for a breeding ground.

Thanks for the info on the moisture problem, i think my hardware store also stocks the same size rod in plastic. I'll do an upgrade! LOL
