Anyone have suggestions for feed pump and recirculating pumps? Thinking Maxijet 1200 for both recirculating and feed, will this work?

I'm using the MaxiJet 900 only because djfrankie in his instructions recommended it over the 1200 he used only used because he had it around

I just siphon through a Aqua Lifter pump filter plenty of volume for the slow drip back to the tank

I have a question about the feed pump. Can someone describe how this is set up and connected to the 1/4 tubing? I have looked throught the forum and seem to only be able to find descriptions of the unit itself. Any advice on the hookup would be appreciated.

I just used a couple of hose barb reducers, from the size of tubing the pump needed, down to the 1/4" tubing.

in Dj's article he mentions mixiing seachem matrix wiuth the sulphur for "larger" systems. Any idea how large is large. I am 300+ gallons....

Also would the matrix media be mixed with the sulphur or would it be best to creat 3 layers of sulphur, matrix, and then Arm.

i can not remenber what page but 2/3 of sulfur and 1/3 of matrix.since u may take the unit off line when nitrate get low and go back on when needed, should not fill w/ ARM.
may consider set up inline second unit fill w/ARM......

I used 3 liters of sulfur and 1 liter of matrix media( not the carbon) for 550gallons and it worked well. I put the sulfur on the bottom. It all mixed together on its own. I used the aragonite in a separte tube. It didn't do much. Personaly, I will not use aragonite the next time I use the reactor.

I have a mag 7 avail for the recirc pump
Questions. How much sulphur will I need in this reactor?
Do you think the mag 7 is too much for the recirc pump?
Any suggestions for input pump? I have an aqua lifter avail but also have the option of running off my return manifold. Thanks for your input

Ok. Read some more and found the suggested formula of 1.5liter for up to 250gal of water. So I guess the pressing question is will the mag 7 be okay for 13L of sulphur??

pro, u can T it off from ur return as long as it not siphon too much air down...

You can run effluent per hour 3x to 5x the amount of sulfur. So for 13 liters you could max out at 65 liters( 16.6 gallons) per hour. Your feed pump needs to be able to push this through. 16.6 is well within the range of most small powerheads.

A maxi jet 12 which is around 200gph worked well on 3 liters for me. You may need something larger for 13. The mag seven sounds about right.

You have a point there. The return manifold will occasionally get air in it. I run my Ca reactor thru the manifold but a few air bubbles don't really matter much there. I will definitely look at using a dedicated small powerhead for the feed. Thanks for the input
