I'm constantly humbled by so many of the tanks and builds here.

In looking at a ton of other folks threads here, I think that was a perfect choice of words...

So far though, you do get one point for uniqueness ;)

I cant wait to see how you aqua scape this tank! any ideas yet?

Yes, I imagine there will be a pretty heavy cropping of corals around the overflow. I will circle the overflow and slope out from the top so about two feet from the center of the tank I have reached the sand bed, so something like a mountain or volcano in terms of shape... I expect to build out a few additional coral outcroppings which should be lit via the spotlights. I want to have a ton of swimming room around the outside of the tank as well as I do plan to put a few fish in the main tank.

I have ~240 lbs of liverock, all cured and ready to roll secured between my existing tank and the rock I'm picking up from a local. (must remember to thank him for holding onto it so long)... what doesn't get used in the display will go in the fuge for extra filtration purposes.

Speaking of spot lights. I might just MIGHT have news that changes everything in a few weeks.
That's all I'm saying right now. :)

Wwwwwwhhhhhhat!? Ok so I was about to order some of thos spot but I'll wait till this surprise,Got me all antsy now:D

Yeah, hang in there for a month... it might be worth it :)

Also, I've received a couple of notifications that there were posts to the thread that didn't show up... I thought that was a little weird... anyone else getting that?

I didn't get any notification.

Also let me know about those light asap becuase I'm dying to figure something out. I was going to go a 6500k and a 20000k. Can't wait.

Also if you want to take a gander on my build thread too click my red house:D

So the two lumenarc's are here.
I have too much light. Two 250 PLUS the spots I have. Oh my.
And I think this is the first part of the plan where I may have made a mistake.
I went SE instead of DE with the bulbs, and that means there is a big honking fixture sticking out of the side of the reflectors. Very ugly. I may not use them for very long.
Can't tell how bad it is because Champion didn't send the screws to attach the mogul to the reflector. (and they installed one of the reflectors backwards too, but you know... whatever.

the RKE is here too, probably play around with that this weekend.

My wife is picking up the shelving for the sump room tomorrow, and I will begin organizing that as well over the weekend.
Waiting to hear on the availability of the wood for the top of the stand.
And last but certainly not least to find out more news on potential other lighting options.

sounds good man! cant wait to see some more progress!

Oy me too.

It's going to be a lame weekend though with very little fun progress.
I'll get the shelving set up for the sump room, maybe hang the lumenarcs and probably play with the RKE a bit, but there is going to be very little visible progress.

The wood top for the stand and all the tanks for the sump room are going to be ready some time next week which means the big plumbing will start a week from tomorrow. I keep lying to myself and thinking it will get done next weekend and then I can start filling the tank, but it's simply not true :)

Maybe three weeks from now though we could actually start seeing water in this baby.

Hopefully I'll have some semi interesting pics with the rest of the lighting hung and the sump room cleaned out and ready for plumbing.

Well just a little update...

My 55 gallon drum for make up water is here.

The rest of the tanks for the fish room are due this week as is the top for the stand so we are looking good for plumbing this weekend.

I hope to have some very exciting lighting updates at the end of the month but let's just say there is a very strong chance that I will not be using the two lumenarcs and there could be some re-arranging of the spots.

The racks are in the fish room too, I have less room than I had expected, it's getting pretty crowded in there with the 55 gallon drum. Going to have to be pretty clever about setting this up, or at least find a better place to put my bikes!

It's hard to progress so slowly and I'm neglecting my current tank more than I should to work on this one.
Oh, also ordered a number of modules for the RKE to make the lighting and chiller connections easier.

Dave,

Looking great!

If you're still making lighting adjustments then one thing I'd suggest you keep in mind, if you want to accommodate easier viewing from above, is viewing angles and surface reflections. The bright reflections are the one drawback to the lookdown tubs I've used for years.

Good to see you again Mark!

What kind of suggestions can you make for me to help keep the reflections down?
I'm pretty sure I'm going to be changing the lighting almost completely. I know I know.. how can that be!? Well I'll know more end of next week, for now I'm keeping it under my hat, but I would be interested in your advice, because top down viewing will be important with this tank!

update?

Giga:
Since my last post:
a few boxes arrived, I didn't even open them.
I worked about 75 hours this week, and spent today at the highland games, followed by the dog park and now going out for drinks with my lovely wife and some friends. (She lets me build this tank, I owe her some drinks!)

Tomorrow AM, I should get the wood top and a few of the tanks and the skimmer is due in Tuesday. I was hoping to do some plumbing this weekend but...

Hopefully a bunch of plumbing is going to get done Monday instead, but that is still TBD pending everyone's availability.

michaelmikol

Thanks!

Hopefully more tomorrow, maybe even with a few pictures.
