Looking to procure some chloroquine phosphate. It will be dosed into my fowlr display. I have zero macro algae, inverts, crustacean life etx, and have heard this chloroquine phosphate is safer than crypto pro (quinine sulfate)?

Is national fish pharm a legit source? I am actually going to vet tomorrow for my dog, and maybe could ask them for a sxript? But who knows if that is something the would do.

If nfp is a legit source (unlike eBay) I will overnight it today.

Also, I remember a post where u said you lost fish with the treatment . May have been this or ich shield powder, if it was chloroquine , can you it is not safe, or maybe it was another variable?

If you get script from the vet it will more than likely be given to you from the pharmacy in pill for which will have fillers in it which will make proper dosing tougher. Ich shield powder is what I would go with, it's easily available and comes from NLS which makes great food as we all know. I killed all my fish with secondary infections caused by dosing the eBay crapfor 30 days, doing a huge water change and then almost immediately seeing ich on my clown tang. That's when I bought the ich shield powder dosed it like all others say to dose it (40-80mg/g depending on what your treating. I dosed at 40mg/g) on the ich shield label and after talking to the owner of NLS for 45 mins on the phone he assured me what the label says (30mg/g) will treat ich and velvet alike. I killed my fish from using a much better source of CP and dosing it at the higher recommended dosage which proved to me that the ich shield is a far superior product. Don't be scared of CP, I personally wouldn't expose fish to CP any longer than 30-35 days. That's plenty of time to eradicate the disease in question but not so long that it starts to effect the slime coat on the fish which then will lead to secondary infections. I might of been able to save my fish when it happened to me but I didn't have any antibiotics on hand. So lesson learned there. I'm stockpiling meds and feeding tubes and ms-222 as we speak for when I setup my QTs for the 625g this summer. Always better to be over prepared than under prepared
 
Ok will rule out vet. If chloroquine phosphate is easier to get from nfp, over ich shield, is nfp chloroquine good?

What's difference between that and crypto pro?

You would have to ask a chemist that question, since that i am not. I know that Zoos, research centers and Alprazo (who i trust more than most here) use CP and never have problems and always have good results

Wait, so did you ever use ich shield again, after that incident? I know your fish died on round two of using CP/IS, but did any survive or did you buy new ones and then used ich shield on them successfully?

I am thinking of just buying some to have on hand.

The only fish that lived was my foxface and I'm 99% sure he is blind now from it all. I haven't seen it eat since early November. I have ms-222 coming to euthanize the foxface. I haven't used the ich shield again since I haven't bought any new fish and won't be until I'm closer to setting up my 625g and have my QT tanks and system going. The ich shield isn't the problem, this I am sure of and I will use it again when I get fish for my new tank. I'm one for having any and all meds you may need on hand ready to go in case the need arises
 
I also just got some feeding tubes to force feed any fish/sharks that don't want to eat. When I'm closer to being ready to setup my big tank I am going to get a couple ornate and Meyer butterfly's and try my hand at force feeding them to see if I can get them to eat prepared foods on their own. The PRN Stat will be here early next week, then all I will be waiting on is Tricaine-S
 
FYI, veterinary CP is in a powder form. The pills are what you would get at a human pharmacy with the name Aralen or Avlochlor.

My vet doesn't carry it at all. I had to walk him through why I needed it but he wrote me the script to get from the local pharmacy. I could get 2 bottles of ich shield for the price of 30 500mg pills from the pharmacy

The owner of NLS told me it was and that he barely breaks even selling it in the powder form. Not sure why he would lie to me about it after talking to me for 45mins on the phone about it but I suppose it's possible he did. New Life Spectrum is a highly reputable company
 
I was just saying I don't know if it's pure CP either, just what I was told. He did most of his testing with Achilles tangs and Moorish Idols and other delicate fish that are easily obtainable. He also told me he had a Achilles tang in it at that time it was for 6 months without any problems with infection

Dmorty217 speaks with undisputed reputation. Clearly he only post comments that are positive maybe not to the T but speaks the truth the many years he's taught me and the countless dictionary sized books I have seen him face deep into. I am a first time user of the powder and will be having him help me. Needless to say I've heard good remarks about the powder form.
 
I have been dosing my display successfully with the NLS ick shield powder now on the fourth day. CP seems to be very gentle on the fish.
