Dmorty217's 625 Build Thread

I'm pretty sure that F&S will as well. From the sounds of it Derek's having a hard time finding the quantities he wants. A company as large as F&S should be able to supply him and cheaply too.

Yes, you're right...I meant that being able to show F&S sale price, in writing, should help with LFS negotiations... where 20 boxes should be more important to them, then to F&S ... My friend and I have been ordering a pallet or more for many years, and the volume allows the LFS to get a bigger discount on his salt order.

How are you guys burning through so much salt?

A 200 gallon box of RC last about 6 weeks here. That's with a 650 gallon (Total volume system) and a 200 gallon (Total volume system).

Doing 3 gallon a day changes on the bigger tank as well.

I tend to go through it a little quicker while QTing.

I had 8 boxes and am down to 2 after draining the DT and starting over after losing the FP. I also plan on doing a 200g water change about once a month, maybe a little longer depending on excess nutrients and over water quality. I will probably be less than that at first with not many fish. Also the QT system with water changes will probably eat 50g a month so at 250g being used per month basically I need 10 boxes minimum to last me longer than a few months

It's weird, with a good sized skimmer skimming wet and Chaeto and can't even get NO3 to register :/

That's with daily 3 gallon changes on around 650 gallons of system volume.

How do you do the water changes per day? I'm not much more in volume than you so maybe I rethink this. Have a huge skimmer, won't have chaeto for a few more months after its sat fallow. Have to buy some pods too

Just have a Neptune DoS connected to a 50 gallon saltwater storage bin. Then have the drain going to the washing machine drain.

I have a drain in the concrete floor I had the plumbers put in before the foundation was poured that's 6"x36" so using dosing pumps like you are would work well. I would get twice as far with a box of salt too

Yeah no reason to go overboard on changes.

If you start getting more and more large fish, then sure up it.

We went to ReefWise 4 hour and 30 minutes away and picked up these beauties a few weeks ago

Simply spectacular.. Doesn't reefwise say they QT all of their fish?
Also, are those Red Sea regals? Can't see their bellies.. Awesome pickups.
Conspic is stunning as usual...
:)

He "QTs" yes but I would equate it to conditioning a lot like DD does. He feeds Dr Gs medicated food and runs a large UV but those together won't guarantee disease free fish. I am treating all of them in CP as we speak. One regal is a orange belly the other is a yellow.

Are they Red Sea and Sumatra? Which is which? The one by the HT looks like a grey belly

Honestly I purchased them back in Jan and I don't remember where he said they were from? They were eating, thats what I cared most about. Haven't had much luck with Regals in the past , due to getting tiny ones that never ate or getting some from the Red Sea that came in with velvet

I live pretty close to Reefwise. I bought a fairly mature Maldieves yellow belly Regal from Brian about two weeks ago. He had it for about 3 days when I took it home, and it had been eating. TTM started. Its eating slowed then on my day 5 it was dead. I should have treated with Prazi right away. Hindsight's 20/20. Although I'm not 100% sure it was flukes, I don't know what else it could have been. I had it QT tank with 3 Anthias from him as well.

Reefwise is a top notch store. Best in the area, and if you drove up from Ohio I'm guessing you feel the same way. Some fish just don't make it. You may think it's one thing, and it's really another. They can turn so fast.
