So my tank chemistry has been a bit out of wack for the past week or two. I also have a bucket of IO salt that I wouldnt mind using up. Is there any reason why I shouldnt do 15g water changes daily for the next week to get things back in order? I will let the water mix overnight and heat it to the tanks temp before adding it.

I see no problem at all with this provided the water is the same salinity, pH and temp.

When I made the switchover to my new tank, I used approx. 350g of new water, which represented an almost 100% water change and didn't have any coral casualties (knock on wood).

Thanks, I would much rather get my chemistry back in check with good fresh water vs. adding this and that. Too bad I think this all started from some bad test kits.

You think that you maybe got a bad mix of salt? When you get your new test kits check the salt. IO is usually the problem Mag is usually 1000 and Cal is usually 360.

I was using reef crystals though. Got this new bucket of IO by mistake.

I set up my first sw tank in early '87, countless times over the years I have almost always solved problems with lots of water changes (of course RO/DI is important).
Anywhere from 30% - 40% every 4 or 5 days does wonders.
The idea I read on one of the sites of also turning off all lights for 3 days while doing water changes worked when cyano got out of hand
(underestimated the build up of nitrate/phos from new live rock).

My main issue is super low calc, low magnesium and basically just out of wack chemistry. As of now I plan on doing 20g daily changes until things straighten out.
