Do all skimmers eventually "Phaze out"

What I mean is about a year ago, you would never see any ads for EuroReef skimmers in the buy and sell section. Now people are almost giving these skimmers away. ERs and ASM skimmers seemed to be the "in" skimmers last year and the year before. I even notice that there is no forum for EuroReef anymore, it's almost like the popularity of these have dropped off the face of the Earth. Either that or they have such a good customer base now, they don't need to hype themselves up on boards or anywhere else (which I seriously doubt). Before these guys there was AquaC, PM, and ETSS.

Now it seems like Deltec, H&S, and Bubble King have sorta taken over. How long will it be until these guys are phased out and taken over by another skimmer company?

Is the technology getting that much better where these older companies get "out-competed" so easily? I mean why doesn't EuroReef for example try and create another skimmer to compete with these other companies?

Is it just the name or the trends that cause this?

It seems a lot of people are switching over to direct overflow skimmers and needle wheels for the energy savings.

new fad skimmers...

That's exactly what I was thinking, and these forums sure fuel alot of these bandwagons.
