Do carpets split?

I was just curios if a carpet will clone it's self.

I have never heard of this happening. It is presumed they only reproduces sexually.

I have seen pictures of and seen in person carpets that were going through a split. I have no way of knowing if they were responding to damage or they were spitting for reproduction. Both were fresh from the wild.

There is a person on this list that has had a haddoni form a bud which is becoming a new individual. The process has taken months and still is not complete.
Budding is not the same as splitting, but it is cloning.
