Do I need a fantech?

Hi guys,

I'm setting up my 60x36x22 inwall tank right now. It will be sealed off from the rest of the building in a closet. I don't know what my evap. rate is going to be so I've been looking at the fantech fans people have used. Thing is that it would be a big hassle to run the fantech I would have to cut the ceiling open, run the duct to the nearest exterior wall (around 50 feet), and then break through a brick wall. Oh yeah, that wall is also around 30 feet off the ground from the outside.

In short, how can I find out if I will need the fan. I've prepped the walls with densarmour and FRP on top of that.

TIA

I dont have an answer for your question as such, but instead another question. If you waited and did need it later how much of a problem would it them become to install?

I would have to drill the hole directly above the operational tank. The stuff that would have to be cut are the following. 2" wood floor from the above floor, remove the insulation, cut the hardibacker and the FRP. It would be possible but definitely a hassle. Also how would I know if I need it, the humidity??

Im wondering the same thing. I will be following your thread and hope to get some answers too BTW i have a 96x24x24 that im building in a wall and need to know about humidity and vents too

A 60x36x22 tank is going to evaporate, at least, a couple of gallons a day. If your system is in a closed room, that water has to go somewhere. If it has nowhere else to go, it'll head for your walls. If noise is not a problem you could get a dehumidifier - means you have you carry out water in a bucket everyday, unless you have a drain in your fishroom. Fantechs are the way to go. You can get an 80W model that would more than handle your setup (as you describe it).

Guess I'll have to get some drilling done before I throw the tank on the stand. A dehumidifier is out of the question. Noise and space are a problem, I have limited space and I already have plans for all of it. I hope I don't have a few gallons of evap daily either way. It'll mess with my ATO plans while I'm away.

Anyone have any tips for the Fantech install?
