I have only once seen a male blue throat trigger have the beautiful purple color shown in "the book" and each time i see them in stores and in peoples pictures here they look darker and more grayish blueish than the purple that the book shows. Again I did see one in a store that looked more like the book but he was gone in a day. Does it vary based on collection location? or is it just a function of coloration changing as they age a bit? Again I am talking about male BTT with the yellow fins. Thanks for any feedback.

I have 2 males , and only one have strong blue color in mouth , but this one before I had the second male . Before that , this one had female color , now color is yellow fins, gray body and blue throat ... . The second male is more green with yellow fins and very light blue throat...

So to get the full color , must have some kind of sexual stimulus to make it happen...

For those of you with Blue Throats are they more of a shy fish? Everyone Ive seen has always been pretty shy.

Thanks for the response, I am refering to the body color and not the blue "patch" or "throat". I am trying to find out if the body color turns more blueish/grayish/darkish than the beautiful light purple that I have seen once only in person and that the book shows. Thanks again? Anyone have a BTT that has a nice purple body color or does it transition away from purple and change to the above mentioned color with time?
