do mantis dig burrows in sand, or just hide in LR?

i have something that dug a hole under a piece of live rock. would a mantis do this? im thinking its a pistol shrimp and i want to get a yellow watchman goby but im scared it is a mantis and my goby goes inside and BLAMMO

Some will burrow and some will back their own cave in the live rock. Mine bulldozed the sand away from a rock and made a cave.

It really depends on the species. Most spearers will only live in burrows. Most smashers prefer to live in rock cavities, but will burrow under a rock if they can't find a suitable cavity.

Put a piece of krill on a skewer and secure the skewer in the sand so that the krill is located very near the entrance. Wait and see what comes out to eat.
