Do nipped fins grow back?

I've had fish pick on each other where fins get a little frayed, but this evening my coral beauty got a little close to the anemone. In the blink of an eye the female clown took a big bite out of his tail. I've never had an issue like that. Do they fill back in?

My damsel nipped my coral beauty's tail when i first added him to the tank, and it healed within a couple of weeks, but it was only a small nip.

My potters angel ate the entire tail off my regal angel. I put the regal in my sump and he is back to 100% after about a month.

Good to know. Like I said, I've dealt with nips and frays here or there, but its almost comedic the cartoon like chomp he has missing. :lol2:

I have a pair of o clowns that never stop bickering ... last time I had to separate them cos one went into hiding ..and didn't come out for sa couple of days .. when I finallyfished him out and into the sump he was bitten all over all fins torn and frayed ... healed in less than 2 weeks :dance:

On my sailfin tang the fins where real bad but grew back quick after I removed the problem fish

I had a midas nip all the filaments off of a terminal blue flasher several months ago. They still haven't grown back. I had the same fish nip other fish fins and they did regrow. If I had known my wrasse wouldn't grow his back I'd have found something a little less humane than donating him to a friend with a 150.

yes, typically, they do grow back. There are always exceptions

To rephrase: I had a clown, tang, chromis, cardinal and wrasse get nipped. The only thing that didn't grow back were the filaments on my flasher wrasse. Your fish should be fine.

Also, I still have the flasher. By less humane I was referring to the midas that I gave away.
