Do Ricordias/ Yumas grow/open more when on the sand

I have a small (quarter sized) yuma I had glued on the side of a rock, a couple of inches off the bottom. I came home the other day to find it laying on the sand, facing right side up, and it was almost double the size I have ever seen it before. Do they do better on the bottom? And will they grow faster if on the sand?

Nothing to do with either the sand or the rock. It probably just found a spot it likes with regard to light and flow.

The yuma is on the sand, at about a 45 degree angle. The part which is in contact with the sand is the part which is much larger, while the top half, not touching the sand, is the size it was before it fell. Seems as if it prefers to be on the sand. Will try to get a pic and post it.

The reason it is open more is because any kind of glue disturbs mushroom corals and will cause them to not open very much. Find a place of low flow in the tank and put it onto a rock and just let it attach over time.

Akimbo, it came attached to a small, roundish rock from the LFS. The rock is about the size of a large marble. It's still attached. I had glued that rock to a large rock in the tank. When it fell off, it landed on the sand at an angle. The bottom part which is in contact with the sand is more open.
lol. They say a pic is worth a thousand words! I'll get one and post it tonight.
