Do the naso's spines grow back?

I can't quite remember... I think it might be something to do with Wet Pets Hawaii? I searched something like "people catching fish on reefs" Hope that helps

This sounds inhumane and unnecessary. I would never buy a fish that's been treated this way. Would you buy a dog whose teeth have been filed down?
That is surprising, Les from WPH is normally fantastic with fish. Does not sound like him at all.

Here on Aquatouch's Website there is a collection trip in Hawaii where they show and mention trimming fins and sharp scalpels (scroll down the page.)

He is a great guy but I am just guessing that the naso's that are 9 inches and bigger have bigger, sharper spines and it may pose a problem during shipping or something.

I don't think it's very kind to be dropping my company name on this thread making it appear that Im inhumanely treating a fish i never posted a video about this...you got the wrong company.....Ive worked really hard to build an impecable reputation and this is not true at all....for the record....I spent big $$$ on shipping and purchased a special nylon bag (not plastic)that isnt cheap so I would not have to file down this extra big Naso tangs sharp spines. I used 3 gallons of water(very heavy package) and paid almost 90 dollars out of my pocket to ship the fish to my customer because I offer free shipping for orders over $100. The fish arrived alive,unshaven, and healthy....my profit margin was very very small on this order because I took every measure to ensure the fish arrives safely....which is what I care about....please get your facts straight before you post on the boards...i dont appreciate that...every customer I have shipped fish to for two years have always had good things to say about my company,livestock and service....Thank you Fahad for your order it was greatly appreciated....Aloha Les @ WPH
P.S just for the record....when a large (show size) fish is shipped IMO it is safer to file the very tip of the tangs spine so that the fish does not pop a hole in the bag and show up DOA....the whole spine doesnt get cut off
just the very tip like trimming your fingernail...you dont cut your whole nail off right.... just the tips...it does grow back in a short period of time and you cant even tell the difference. would you rather have a fish show up healthy or show up DOA think about it....in this case I had a special bag which allowed me to ship this show size tang untouched I dont know of another company that will spend almost $10 just on the bag alone so that the spines dont have to be shaved....filing the tips of a really large tang is not uncommon though....Ive seen a friend diving and getting cut really bad by a large Naso tang spine....needless to say he needed 15 stitches....now if a Naso tangs spine can cut a humans skin that badly think what it can do to a plastic ship bag....I rarely ship show size fish but when I do...I do care about the fish......Aloha

wow les, he got 15 stitches from a naso?!?! thats insane!! i will gladly order from you in the future and I am still waiting on the other fish lol.
I agree with cutting the spines though because it is the same thing as me cutting my cat's nails all the time when they get too sharp to prevent it from harming me and the furniture

Les does ship quality fish and this morning I think he shipped part of the Pacific with the fish I got from him and I had to undu I don't remember how many bags. Excellent fish. Big thumbs up to Les.

meh this practice is not common but extremely necessary in LARGE specimens (10"+) if the choice of shipping is bags. The trimmed down spines are barely even noticeable, just not as sharp. You probably wouldnt have even known they were trimmed down unless you saw him before the trimming.
As for growing back I am not sure, over time I would expect them to sharpen back up

If you dont want him shaved down ask Les if he would ship this fella in a plastic container. You will however have to pay more for shipping

Can anyone explain though, in the AquaTouch link, why on earth the guy is clearing trimming the dorsal on the Naso?
I didn't notice it the first time around, but you can clearly see fin shards on the snips.

Well see it from a divers perspective. They would rather be safe than sorry. A DOA is bad news for them, not only does it cost them a big chunk of change but it can tarnish their reputation as well.
