Do you like the Gemmatum Tang ?

I ask myself if the fact then the Gem tang live deep is not the reason of his swim bladder infection in a tank where he can't go deep !

Only the adults go deeper, but not really deep.

Are you sure your fish had a swim bladder infection?

Is it my favorite tang? No.

Is it my favorite tang that I would comfortably put in something less than a 240? Yes.

(I am a big fan of Sohal/Clown/Naso :) )

I have some serious doubts about a Gem tang for $250. If that were the case, buy them all, resell them in the US. And make big profits. Why wouldn't the collectors just sell to the US where they could get substantially more than $250. I wouldn't be surprized to find out it's a Mustard Tang.

Because of the risk and hassle... plus this is a 3 year old thread, things may have changed a little since then......

After 3 years in your possession, why do you think it was the swim bladder?

Hello, sorry to answer so late !

The bladder was swollen we had to deflate it with a syringe needle!
Then it was autopsied.
The price was low because the store has also bought fifty box of other fish to the fisherman who sent it and he sold the tang the price he has paid to the fisherman!

50 blacks! I was going to say! 50 scopas is more like it :)

Gems are pretty fish. i like how the they are black with the spots and how they have a clear tail so it makes it look very unique... that is why we like most fish, no? because they are or can be unique to us...

The collectors want a lot of money for them. 250$ US or Euro? I've talked to a few collectors and that is close to export price.. unless its a different person!

I'd have to see it in person. Like the Mcullogh clowns, I've seen a few really nice pics and lots of so so pics. I'm more of an angel or trigger guy anyways

I would trade this guy for a gem tang in a heart beat.

Now thats a pretty tang....

In a store in British Columbia, Canada they are selling gem tangs for $1500 each and they are able to get 14 of them.

Gem tangs aren't hard to get, if you can find someone in Mauritius. Its when they hit the steps involved that it becomes harder and more expensive. Plus if you order directly, you have to take a bunch of other stuff you may not want!
