when i get my new tank going, will using the excess water from my water change on my other tank, be good for the new tank if i put it in there? Or if i use some of the junk in the filters i have a nano btw and just get some of that bacteria in there or no? just let it cycle?

I think he is talking about the water he removes from the tank. If so it is not nessisary, and you might get some unwanted transfer.

Yes. I killed A bush and some grass dumping sw in the same place for too long.

Saltwater will kill plants! Don't ask me how I know or test the theory yourself. Let's just say I landed in the dog house for what I killed with old tank water.

As long as your nano has been a healthy tank, there is a benefit to using some of your old tank water to "seed" your new tank. Your cycle will take much less time, or, you may not have any cycle.

Sure use it. No harm! Will be good for the tank, but it will most likely still 'cycle'. I don't know what that yahoo was talking about watering plants with it for.... He's trying to get you in trouble!! On his TDS statement..... uhhh.... Salt is a solid.... dissolved.... so yes, ALL saltwater will be high in TDS. :hmm4: It's supposed to be!

When I bought my tank, I purchased LR and water from
an enormous existing system. Never had a cycle and began
stocking within a week.

Good idea.

I have seen high end tanks that run propagation systems off of water changes from their main tank. And those setups are long term.. not just for new tanks.

Some even go to the length of having contiuos changes with a Litremeter 3. Fresh saltwater goes into the main tank, water-change water from the main tank is transferred into the second tank, and waste water from the second tank goes into the sewer, continuosly.

Either way, this method is dependant on having good water quality in the main tank to begin with and being very consistant with your changes...

The water will really do very little to help you. If you stick a sponge in your current tank for a week or two, you will be far better off as it will contain the bacteria's. There really sin't that much bacteria floating in the water column.

bpd964 was talking about using excess reject RO/DI water I think for watering plants. I think they misunderstood that you meant tank water and not reject ro water.
