Do you use carbon for sps tank

I would like to hear some opinion on this topic before I go purchase some phosphate free carbon:rollface:

I have run carbon in my tanks for years, 24 hours a day through reactors. No ill effects from it and all of my corals grow well with good color. I wouldn't over do it though.

I also run carbon 24/7 in my sps tank....I have done it for over a year and a half with no problems...all sps have good growth and coloring...

Carbon for 10 years, just about every brand available but have been using Rox.08 for about 5 years and usually between 1/4 and 1/2 of BRS's recommended amount because it is a very aggressive carbon.

Me too. I run carbon and gfo 24x7 in their own respective reactors and my tank is heavily sps dominated.

I run both rox and gfo and my tank seems to appreciate it the water is crystal clear most of the time And I like to use it for the fact of incase anything gets in there that's not supposed to be ..... Household chemical that get in the air etc....

My tank have been running without carbon for 3 yrs, if I add carbon now should I just do it once a week for the first few months then gradually adjusting the length to keep it in the system?

IMO, activated carbon is a must for sps tanks. Helps minimize the effects of the chemical warfare that colonies will start to release when fighting for room

according to the video from BRS, activated carbon is really only good for about 24 hrs when using it in a saltwater tank; then it's spent. What do you guys think about that?

Been using it since day 1, be cautious with it and ramp it up slowly. Im not using alot on my 300g system anymore. Maybe 2 cups (i fill up a mesh bag and keep it in my reactor so it doesnt tumble)
