Do your fish prefer a certain type of Nori?

I've found that while my fish will eat the green type they all prefer the red type more. If I put green in there they will nibble at it here and there but there will still be some left when I pull the rock out that I rubber band it to. When I put red on there they eat it all. Anyone else notice if their fish like one kind over the other?

Most of my fish won't touch the green nori. Sometimes the yellow tang will eat small pieces, that's all. But I don't want to buy the expensive red colored Nori sold by fish brands. Is there a grocery store what will sell the red or brown nori at sane prices?

I buy the purely roasted ones from an Asian market (NOT Oriental, btw) and they're a mix of green and brown I would say. My tangs devour them, blenny and wrasses too at times.

Yep. My vlamingii tang used to refuse green/brown nori, but couldn't get enough of the red stuff. Same goes with my clowns and damsels (the only other fish with an interest in nori in my tank), they've all got their preferences :fish1:

My fish are equal-opportunity piggies. I think I could put cardboard in the clip and they'd eat it.

My foxface eats all types - green, red and brown. Haven't tried purple yet, but I'm sure he'd wolf it down. Big fat pig, he is.

When you guys say 'brown' what do you mean? I'm unaware that nori comes in brown .... Maybe something else?

I went through a lot of different kinds of nori I sheets hoping my fish would like. All colors of them purple, red, brown, green, etc. Different brands and Asian store bought. TLF, Julians, Omega, etc. Nothing was popular.

They did like a pellet I found where the first ingredients was spirulina but it got discontinued and found they like hikari algae extreme pellets that has an algae meal as a first ingredient. Which is what I look for, some kind of algae as the first primary ingredient, but surprisingly hard to find in herbivore blends. I did find recently an omega one kelp pellet that has whole kelp and spirulina as the first two ingredients which I like even better as long as my fish like it. They don't like wafers and I don't like to feed flakes.

But back to nori sheets. I finally found one my fish like. Its LRS premium seaweed which has on the label a fancy way of saying Nori. But for some reason my fish really like it so I'll keep using it. My LFS just got them in and decided to try it out. Even my file fish is pecking at it.

I feed a lot of various meaty foods at night and a mix of NLS pellets and veggie pellets through out the day via a feeder. So I will throw in a sheet a couple times a week now too.

Here's the omega one kelp pellets I really want to try out

I've only tried the green so far (my tang is still relatively new) and it's gone in a few hours. The niger trigger even will grab a fair bit. I'll have to pick up some of the red nori and give it a try. Not much goes to waste either, I use mesh screen on an old mag float and it does a good job keeping it together.
