i got my 9010 about 2-3 months ago and maybe i was expecting alot more but let me just say im not that impressed with the skimate this thing is producing .... not sure if i have it setup right but when i got it i basically just threw it in my sump and plugged it in.... some days it produces more skimate then others and sometimes i can go a week without emptying the cup..... ive tried adjusting the little nob but it doesnt seem to make much of a differance....ive heard of people modding it but figured id check here first and see if im doing something wrong or what others think about the skimate this thing produces
any help is appreciated

I would first make sure everything is assembled properly as shown in the manual and that it is working as it should, water is exiting the stand pipe and the hole in the back and a consistent foam is being generated. Some assembly is required for sump use as delivered the skimmer is intended for in tank use and often the pump is not shipped in it's fully assembled position. If you did not go through the manual and mod it for in sump use I would expect poor performance.

What other mods than the bracket assembly for in sump use? I added mine to my sump for a 90 gal and sat it on something to keep water level at about 10". It pulls out 100ml in about 2 days. Should it be pulling more or is that about right?

You should have installed a coupler between the intake grate and the pump, a stand pipe and a bottom plate which is solid and uses suction cup feet. 100ml in 2 days sounds excellent, if you are running it a constant 10" water level you don't need the mod, in sump mode is for varying water levels between 4-10"

No, as long as you can keep the water level between 9.5-11" and it is constant the skimmer should work in "in-tank" mode. Can you provide any photos? Have you checked that airline is firmly connected to the venturi and the pump is installed so the outlet is inside the jet pipe, often they are not shipped fully assembled.
