DOC Skimmer 9005 vs DOC Skimmer 9002

Roger and gang - I am looking for a new protein skimmer for my 20gal setup. I am curious how 9005 and 9002 compare in noise level. Looking at the design of both skimmers and having past experience with 3110/2, I am definitely leaning towards 9005, but noise level is very important for me. I assume that 9002 makes the same noise as its predecessor. Also, is 9005 already available in stores?

Thanks for advice.

I have used 3110/2 and 3115/2 in the past for my 46gallon tank. The noise level is the same between the two models as I recall.
3115 is much better than 3110 in every aspects. Right now, I am using 9010 for my 58 gallon tank and I love it. I even keep golden butterfly fish in this tank although I should have bought a bigger tank. If you plan on moving to a bigger tank in the future, I strongly recommend that you purchase at least 9005 instead of 9002 since the motors used in the two models are totally different in league.

I belive it is well worth the money.

I hope you find my advice helpful.

Good luck!

Most of our dealers should have the 9005 in stock. The 9005 is quite a bit bigger so it would take up a substantial amount of room in a 20. That is the main reason I would go 9002.

Roger, skimmer will be placed in sump/tank plumbed to the main display from behind, plenty of room in there :) . Any thought on noise levels?

Thanks for your advice coco, yes I found it very helpful. I think I'll go with 9005. 9010 might be a bit of overkill at this moment and near future as well.

It will be about the same, the 9005 is slightly quieter but both are very quiet. The 9005 as delivered will require 10" about of water in the sump. The 9010 is better for in sump use as it includes the sump kit for varying water levels.

I've attached Comline 9005 to my system last night. Nice compact unit, very little noise. Let's see how it performs.
Thanks for help.

I believe you made a right decision concerning the choice of the skimmer. When it comes to noise and performance, it is difficult to beat Tunze.
Have a wonderful fishkeeping!
