DOC tunze skimmer

Anybody have any experience with these guys?? Tunze has been around for quite some time and these line line of skimmers and being so compact that they vertially fit in any sump.........how about Tunze vs. euroreef??

They are very different. The Tunze skimmers definitely IME do not "overwhelm" you with foam, but for whatever reason, produce skimmate. They are very, very quiet. They are very compact. I dunno exactly how to compare them to the high end needlewheels (H&S, Deltec, BK etc...), but for the compactness and noise alone, I ditched the ER I was using on my office tank and switched to a tunze DOC. There is a new line of them coming out at the end of the year for larger tanks.

moodpod, Besides the noise issue are, which is important to me as well. Are you happy with it's performance?? It's going to support a heavy bio load in 180gal.

The DOC is very quiet and seems to perform well. I have one of the very small ones, if not the smallest on a 55g tank, albeit light bioload. This tank is a virtual ecosystem. I feed nothing. There's a purple tang in there, good size, honestly too big for a 55. A caulerpa and seagrass farm and some zoos. Again, I do like, nothing to the tank (I don't feed it) and the tang is fat and happy and the DOC somehow pulls out a good amount of skimmate. Its weird.

thanks guys, good feed back

goda,

which one do you have and tank size, bio load etc?? Also does your perform in a similar fashion as moonpod's?

DOC's

DOC's

Both my tanks run Tunze Doc's (a 9005 with sump kit and a Nano Doc), they pull full cups daily. They are obviously better than any HOB skimmer I've used (CPR, AquaC, SS), though I haven't used a big needle-wheel to compare them to. They definetly follow a totally different philosphy when it comes to skimming, their air number (l/h) is always impressive, but they're very compact in the contact chamber (The reason I heard was the large chambers the bubles collide to much and knock the protien off, whether this is true or not is unkown, but they do pull a good deal of skimmate).

I also have the 9005 with the sump kit on my 30G softy tank and it is doing great. I've had an Aqua C remora on there for 2 years and I was never happy with the preformance of it. In the 3 days the Tunzes been running I think its pulled out more then the Aqua C did in 2 years.

If I had to do it over again though I would buy the 9010 version, it comes with the sump kit and the collection cup is big, plus its only $20 more...

Here are some pictures of mine in action:
